Talk about a feather in your cap some years to come.

"Come coach UT baseball to a national title and, you too, could become one of the only 2 college coaches all-time to go directly to the pros as a HC!"

What an amazing selling tool. And, honestly, if we win a title once a decade...even every 15-20 years...that's an infinite upgrade for the entirety of UT baseball for the first 125 years of its existence.

Idk if true or not, but I'd be damn fine with it, if it was.

WBB is the sport we are best at, historically. I have no problem throwing them a little extra. They've earned it, pound for pound, 10 times over.

And a couple of elite Lady Vols probably costs what a backup DB does, but may actually get us a national title very soon. Caldwell just needs a dribble of elite talent, then we're going nuts all over the landscape of womens' basketball. I'm down for it, LFG!

1) when did he actually say TV hadn’t spoken with DW at all during these negotiations? I’ve heard reports that Low never said that. You got a link to that specific part?
2) I don’t know enough to comment on them. I’ll give it to you.
3) No one reported he “almost” took the job. Just that he “flirted with”/talked to them.
4) This is false and has been reported by numerous outlets. It’s a law. You can’t break the law…
5) Sure, but not to get cliche however it’s totally cliche: can you put a price tag on a dream job?
6) Show me a coach who doesn’t leave their current job for another all because of a recruiting class. This one is asinine, if you ask me.

I’m not choosing to believe there’s not some truth to the animosity/bad relationship between DW and Tony. But I also don’t think there’s some sinister story just below the surface. And I also don’t believe DW is the villain in this at all. He’s done enough for this university that doesn’t warrant being stabbed in the back by a small yet vocal group of our fanbase. It’s just silliness.

Stoerner Fumbles also lent credence to this notion. Chastised the AD’s arrogance in this situation.

Brent Hubbs had a line today talking about how this ordeal showed that the administration has to be more hands on in dealing with revenue shares with its coaches in the new environment. Read into that what you will.

Danny himself said he’s talked to Tony once since Saturday. Not how I would handle being on the brink of losing my generational head baseball coach, but maybe that’s standard procedure for this sort of thing? Not sure. Seems odd to me.

After sitting with it all afternoon, and now seeing all the social media reaction, this one really hurts. As a big Braves fan, it honestly reminds me of when Freddie Freeman left for the Dodgers.


Tony Vitello wasn’t just a legendary baseball coach; he was an incredible ambassador for the entire university. He showed up at football and basketball games, lived out the Volunteer spirit every day, and truly felt like one of US. While I’m happy for him and the well-deserved opportunity ahead, I’m still heartbroken to see him leave Rocky Top.


Right now, our baseball program is at a huge crossroads (could make the case for DW also). Starting over completely with an outside staff would be a massive and unnecessary risk, jeopardizing the culture, the players, and the recruiting foundation that TV/Elander/Frank Anderson helped build.


It’s clear that the players are behind him; nearly every single one has voiced their support online. He’s been a key part of this program’s rise, and I really hope DW makes the right call: promote Elander and keep the Vols rolling.
