Why won‘t Heupel take sole responsibility for Saturday

Brother, with respect, it seems to me that the same mistakes keep happening every year and it’s year five.

Don't totally disagree, but that has nothing to do with what he says or doesn't say to the media.

I suppose some butthurt fans will feel better if the coach falls on his sword in public, but it serves no real purpose.

Yes it was a team loss; but I am very disappointed that Heupel keeps saying „we“ and „us“ instead on „I“ and „me“.
Great leaders share the praise but accept the blame.
I would have so much more respect for Heupel if he just came out and said „I screwed up“.
He shouldn't accept the blame because it was the refs fault that we lost. If they hadn't made every call in favor of Bama, we would have won easily.

I like JA. But the knock on him was he was turnover prone . . . And as the season has gone on . . . We are starting to see that. He can hit hot streaks like he did against UGA and he is much better at the deep ball than anyone we have seen since Hooker.

But he has made mistakes over the middle that could have been picks . . . And while I don’t love the play call at the end of the first half, it was poorly executed. He may have indeed been rattled from that previous hit . . . But it’s also possible he simply is turnover prone and had one at the worst possible time. It was a terrible throw . . . And the reason we lost the game (IMO).
I’m cutting JA a lot of slack on that play. He clearly was playing hurt & didn’t have much on the ball. The timing of the play was off as that ball has to be thrown on the receiver break not after he’s almost ran to the corner.

If there were difference makers they could attain, they would have gotten them and processed some other guys.
Again, not an intelligent, thoughtful, realistic answer. I hire people as part of my job. You can attend classes and use the very best evaluation techniques. You can perform expert interviews. And you will still have a % of your hires that fail. They won't live up to your expectations or will exit early. You never know who will be a "difference maker". Every personnel choice carries risks.

Statistically in real world choices like that... your chances of having the talent you need go UP with the number of people you can hire into a particular job category. Simple, straight forward example is that if they had two more DLs in the DL room... then they've increased their chances of getting "difference makers" AND have improved depth so guys can play like difference makers.

He had no line of sight for the throw due to a DL in his throwing lane. Woulda had to sidestep and sling it sidearm for a chance. Gotta sail it. He came off his feet trying to loft it over the DLs hands. Not a pass you want to put your qb in position to try to make, especially after telegraphing the play.

Football players are a little bit different than call center agents, chief. Especially in the portal, when you already have a pretty good idea of what the people are capable of.

And if they really want two more DL, they could have gotten them. Scrounge up a little NIL money and go get a couple “walk ons.” Instead we chose to have what was ranked as the worst portal class in Power conference football. That was a deliberate decision. It is ridiculous and pathetic that some of you choose to ignore reality and blame scholarship for numbers for Heupel’s shortcomings.

Heupel will probably never throw a player under the bus publicly. While the play call on the pick 6 was bizarre if executed well we score. It was a bad throw from a QB who was clearly not at his best after getting hammered on 2 different plays. He just didn't have the zip on the throw. It was a dumb play call in that situation which would have required perfect execution.
That being said, had they gone 4 wide and just run a QB draw he probably walks in untouched.
People keep talking about that play and not the bad clock management that led to us even thinking about passing on the goal line. With two timeouts left Heupel let half a minute waste away when it was inside the final minute of the half. The whole time I was screaming at the TV "call a timeout!"

Absolutely! I was too. But once he farted the clock away, he had to make a better play call.

Ok, Bama and UGA are "technically down" this year because they are breaking in new QB's.

So what kind of year is Tennessee in given we are starting a new QB who wasn't on campus until the summer and was not ranked by recruiting services coming out of high school?
Tennessee has not been built into an actual winner of anything yet (which is why we can't have any so called trap games). So we are fighting for respect and a place at the table. UGA and Bama are on a different level. We are trying to get there. Beating both this year would have helped us out tremendously, as far as "getting there" goes.

Technically down meaning that they are both PROVEN recruiting powerhouses that have won SEC & National titles in the very recent past. We are not such a powerhouse, and have not won either in since back in the 90's.
