Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I think we dominate UK. Fans/team back into it vs OU. Neyland is packed and rocking for that game. Another opportunity to show that we are real. We missed 1 FG vs UGA and we had a disastrous pick 6.

I'm not ready to flush this team.
We were extremely competitive in the Bama game. Whether fans want to admit it or are too blind to see it, that pick 6 was the difference. Idk if we win or not, but it's a 1 possession game coming down to the last drive.

Not making excuses, just pointing out that no one has taken a stick and beaten us to death with it yet. We are a very good team and likely win out. . . if we stop firing missiles at our toes during live action.

I can see this starting a debate. I loved cryptozoology as a kid. I checked out every book in my library even remotely-related multiple times. I lived a blessed childhood. I've seen great arguments from people who say it was faked and even go into detail on how it would have been possible. Bear in mind this was filmed in California.

@Weezer will confirm

Call me crazy...but Tony doesn't seem the type to appreciate being pressured into doing anything.

I think Giants letting his name leak might have done them in for making it happen (if they actually planned to anyway). There are lots of games that get played, he could have been a decoy target anyway.

Of all the really really good coaches that work through the system. It just never sat well with me that he (TV) worked hand in hand with DW on his legacy, that stadium.

Coach in San Fran, be completely cut off from important things, Coeds, No income tax, your people, TN, legacy, and carte blanche whatever you need. Just never seemed quite real to me.

Patterson Gimlin film taken….

I have seen clips of that with the jittery film stabilized and zoomed in on the subject.
For something filmed 60 years ago, no way that’s a “guy in a costume.”
Have no idea what that is. But once you’ve seen the close up, slow motion, stabilized scenes of it walking, that thing is nowhere in the same universe as costume tech that existed then.

Makes for a great, unprovable argument either way! 😂

I'm sure there is a long pro/con list...

But less money, less security, less revere from fans and players....it'd be an adjustment and I'm not sure "managing in the majors" is enough draw. Not when the stadium you helped build isn't even completed yet.

If I was in those shoes I'd want to see it done at least before moving to the next challenge.

And that is what you said with what we knew when Nico Dollars left And knowing our defense was HURT and a rebuild anyway??

Go back and read the August threads and most people would have been happy with 9-3 even though most said we were 8-4….

The problem is most people‘s expectations changed during that Georgia 1st quarter and now they are forgetting August nightmares….
Actually everyone predicted our defense to be pretty strong

As for the preseason 8-4 or 9-3 predictions sure, those were based on assumptions at the time. But that also included teams like Florida being stronger than they’ve shown to be. Florida is a complete mess right now no way anyone would call an acceptable loss right now.

Well duh man cause you know expectations evolve based on new information. That Georgia 1st quarter showed what this team is capable of when it's locked in. So yes, it raised expectations, and rightly so.

CTV was 3rd option on the Giants list.

Nick Hundley was top target but when the Padres Manager retired that took Hundley out of running for Giants job.

Bruce Bochy was 2nd but Buster Posey decided not to hire Bochy and try to run it back to the early 2010 thru 2015 era.

So here we are back to CTV as #1 option.

Weird take...I think the schedule actually got worse for us than preseason predictions.

We all knew Georgia/Bama would be tough.

But Vandy is a top 10 team right now, OU is top 15. Miss State was undefeated until we beat them. Hogs may be the best 2-5 team in the country...lost at Ole Miss by 6, at Memphis by 1, at TN by 3 and vs A&M by 3... other than Notre Dame where the wheels fully fell off they've competed with everyone they've faced and have a legit shot (if Green stays healthy) of finishing the season winning 5 straight.
Weird take? How?

Right now, Tennessee’s only SEC wins are against teams that are winless in conference, and we play winless Kentucky next. So we are sort of being propped up by an easier schedule.

Trying to sell a 2–5 Arkansas team as “maybe the best 2–5 team in the country” doesn’t really help the case. They’re 0–4 in the SEC, haven’t beaten a Power 5 team, and being close in losses doesn’t change the fact that they’re losing consistently. There’s no trophy for "almost."

TV never played pro ball, not even minor league ball. It is really unusual for major league manager to have not played in the big leagues or the minors. I doubt for a lot of reasons that TV jumps to the MLB. He's a made man.
Actually I can see "nobody has ever done before" as being a draw to the job for TV, not a drawback. People saying he's a bad fit for the job (which I think he absolutely is) could also be a motivator, as is wanting to swim in a bigger pond.

He isn't actually lined up to receive a huge raise out of this (especially when you consider CA taxes/cost of living); not sure how big of a factor the money is.

Only hope for playoffs is for vandy and Oklahoma to keep winning until they play the VOLS and hope the VOLS can win those games convincingly

I feel the same way, and said the same words; but, maybe his dream is Major League Baseball, like so many others who have ever played the game? Maybe his competitiveness wants to see if he can succeed at the highest level?

With that in mind, I can totally understand why he would leave; and, I will wish him well and still love and appreciate him...hell, I could maybe even get interested in Giants baseball. Thats another thing...it's not like it's a new franchise or some bottom feeder that's come calling. The San Francisco Giants are one of the 5 to 7 best franchises in all of baseball.

Money is a factor, too, of course...but, I believe it's secondary to a couple of other things. Like you said, legacy...dreams...competitive nature...his love/dream of the big leagues; or, King of Rocky Top, with his very own palace.
