Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Yeh they did i guess

Although back to back 99 and 75 yard TD drives in the most crucial part of the game is just terrible.

And another converted 3rd and 13 first drive of the game and they go on to have another 90+ yard TD drive. Just killer stuff
Agree that's all bad but if we score before half and the defense gets the 3 & out to start the second half (like they did), UT has the ball down 16-14 with 13-14 min to go in the 3rd quarter and it's a totally different ball game.

Heck IIRC they also got a stop after we cut the lead to 10, next drive our offense gets in plus territory and we screw ourselves out of any points (or the refs screwed us, I can't remember).

2022 Vols, with Hendon Hooker in his second year, Hyatt, Tillman, Keyton, Bru, Jabari Small, and Jaylen Wright:
Ypg: 525
Ppg: 46

2025 Vols, with Joey Aguilar in his 7th month, Matthews, Staley, and Brazzell, DeSean Bishop, Peyton Lewis, and Star Thomas:
Ypg: 511
Ppg: 44
That extra 14 yds may have won the game against Georgia. Dang you Golesh for leaving.🤬🤣

Offense has mistakes in execution that need to be cleaned up, but overall, they're fine. The real problem is defense. Poor fundamentals, too little leadership, bad play calls, horrid execution. Most of the time they play with no spirit. Third quarter of the Arkansas game, you saw spirit, but most games, it just isn't there. McCoy and Gibson helped mask the lack of good safety play, but with both out, it's evident we've done a piss poor job at recruiting the position. Right now, Banks is our albatross.
If Mike and Miles just catch the dang ball and play with more confidence, we aren’t being held under 40-45 by anyone.

Gibson was big in run support last year. He was small but he would run quick to tackle. I remember one game where he ran across the line of scrimmage and made a huge stop on a run. Sheer will and determination.

3 wishes for the offseason:
1. a true safety, preferably a FS that can hawk the field
2. an injection of creativity in the offense again
3. a timeout guy. doesn't have to be a high-paid assistant. just someone to manage the clock for josh.
Right on. Creativity particularly in the red zone. Ironically we didn’t have to be creative Saturday because we had a back averaging 9 yards a carry. Just give him the ball. Bama was begging for us not to run it.

If you want to be apples to apples through the first 7 games of '22 we were averaging about a TD more per game at 50 ppg, I moreso think Golesh was valuable because of the play I saw at 9 seconds left in the 2nd Q, not because we can't put up big numbers against ETSU, Miss St, Ark and.... UGA (this is the only outlier 😂).

I am more worried about Florida in the Swamp than Vanderbilt at home and I think Vanderbilt is better than Florida.

Until we win at the swamp, I look at that game as a loss.

The swamp is a house of horrors for UT.
It’s a VNRF tale as old as time

Every single year this board talks about how bad Florida has looked.
Talks about how comparatively good we have looked.

There are some who point out “It’s Florida”.
They are invariably mocked and shouted.

Then we play the game.

And overwhelmingly more times than not - They Beat Us.

Game is in the Swamp. Doesn’t matter how bad Florida looks. Doesn’t matter how chaotic the program is.

It will take a great performance to be beat them.

Serious question, does Hyatt sniff a Belitnikoff if the offense doesn't scheme him wide open every other play? It's not like he did much in Yr 1 or 2. I promise I say that with all due respect, his performance against Alabama is and always will be legendary and I'm glad he had all the success he did.
It's a combination of the scheme and Hyatt being perfect for it. Same as Hooker. The scheme hasn't gotten worse, but we haven't seen a QB with command of the offense like Hooker had or a WR with the ability to GET open via the scheme like Hyatt could since 2022.

2022 was a perfect storm of Hooker + Hyatt + Golesh operating within Heupel's scheme. And Heupel having a much more aggressive mentality overall. We also had a backfield with Jabari Small, Jaylen Wright, and Dylan Sampson, which was no small thing for the offense.

Yep, their run defense sucks but we will counter that and run 29 times against 49 drop backs, makes no sense at all for anyone with half a brain

Part of college coaching is recruiting. Fulmer could recruit with the best of them whereas recruiting is a weakness for Heupel. I do think Heupel is a better x's and o's coach than Fulmer was, but Fulmer was much better at getting the Jimmy's and Joe's. And to be fair, until Heupel produces a NC, I'm giving Fulmer the nod as the better coach, in his prime.
10000%…. Most on this board had this view about Kirby Smart now look at him 2 championships and fail to understand recruiting is coaching in college sports. Just look at Tony Vitello.

Heup has historically not really meddled with the defense, he let Shannon run the show at UCF, but he has always had 100% control of the offense including calling the plays.
You must be his wife because you post like you know more about him than anyone but he himself?

Come on dude, everyone has their opinions but NO ONE outside the actual coaches know nearly as much as you claim to.
