Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

Any leaks as to the money being offered?

Making $3 Million a year in Knoxville provides a pretty good quality of life. It would take quite a bit more to live the same way in San Francisco.
sadly he wouldnt have to live on SF and still be their manager. He could live 30 to 45 minutes outside of SF and still be in a great location but cheaper. But i doubt paying rent would bother him.

whatever man...clueless

everything big going on at UT sports or academic has Randy Boyd's hand prints all over it.

I'm not out to crush DW but acting like hes the second coming of Jesus Christ AD's is dumb. A dozen AD's could come in and keep the train rolling with Randy in charge.

Danny was a top 10 AD before he even talked with UT about the job. His work at Buffalo and UCF was universally praised and you talk to the UCF fanbase, he is the main driver as to why they are now a P4 school. Randy Boyd isn't the one driving huge NIL numbers for our programs, helping make us an elite athletic department once again.

And saying "I'm not out to crush DW" and say he is a figurehead...is saying he's ****.

Last time I was out there it was only 3 miles to reach 30-45 minutes. Have no clue how a CALI lifestyle would fit him.

Anybody got a clue what total cost of living percentage differential including taxes would be?

Also not lost in this: TV would go from having near total control over a roster in Knoxville, to having a GM own the roster in San Fran. It has all the makings of a disaster.

I'm sure some of that is what is holding TV back at this point. But sounds like Posey is a good personal friend which is pulling at him.

The only really significant thing Boyd has done directly in athletics is rally the troops to keep Rick Barnes away from UCLA.

Him and Plowman did have a major impact in getting the boosters to actually be aligned and getting them to offer big money to White to get him here. I won't deny that impact. But trying to say Boyd is the brains behind the whole thing and White is a "figurehead" is disrespectful and wrong.

I think if Tony loved Danny White, he would still entertain an MLB offer. If he were threatening to jump to another school (ala Kevin O'neil), then I could be on board with he TV hates DW conspiracy theory

This exactly. Knowing Tony, I'm sure he is not the easiest coach to deal with. And knowing White, I'm sure he's a hardhead at times as well. However, if things were so bad it was unbearable for TV, he would have jumped to another program by now.

While I agree that if DW and TV had an excellent relationship, TV would consider this MLB job, I do not agree that their relationship doesn't matter........
Their relationship does not matter in the context of TV considering the SF Giants job.

He's going to consider that job regardless of what his relationship with DW is. The football equivalent would be Ryan Day being offered the Pittsburgh Steelers or Green Bay Packers job.

I remember reading a lot of UCF press after both DW and Heupel left there. They weren't super broken up over Heupel. They were despondent about DW.

Thank you for phrasing it in a way that I could not lol.

It is possible he had been biding his time. Possible. I hope he has largely been focused on the team.

Is there any correlation between Tony's life-style and living in San Francisco. It's very clear Tony loves baseball and the fans in Knoxville. But given a choice would he rather live in Knoxville or San Francisco? I honestly don't know and I've not heard that aspect discussed.

I’m a bit concerned that he hasn’t turned down the job yet. He’s had 48 hours since the news broke. I know typically the longer it goes on you’d think the better it is for us, but part of me just feels like he accepted and the MLB is keeping the announcement on lockdown till the ALCS is over. Hope that’s not the case.

Does Tony scream East Tennessee to you or California life…he enjoys the attention and glamour…he’s gotten a taste of that kicking it with Morgan wallen…tony leaving wouldn’t surprise me at all but it would suck big time.

Yep. Hear anything today it’s probably good news, tomorrow it’s probably bad news

Being a Vol doesn't imply that one doesn't look to have success at the next level.

The concern I have is that he goes to MLB, does not have success then ends up at an SEC rival when he resurfaces at the college level because we have moved on.

Maybe we’ll be so bad without him that we’ll drop everything to hire him back when the giants fire him. Non zero chance that happens

It’s all relative. Ask UCF’s fan base and press what they think of Heupel now. They would love to have him back after what they have been through since he left.

He bought his folks a nice home in Knoxville. Family is exceptionally important to CTV. His Dad speaks glowingly of Knoxville

You are probably right, but I wasn't making that statement to highlight how their fans were wrong. I was just saying that DW was incredibly highly thought of by their fanbase, and they were pretty broken up and unsure about the future when he left.
