Napier has been fired

Weird to fire him after a win. You'd think they'd at least wait till next week when he loses to Georgia.

My big fear is that they'll hire Golesh. Don't think Kiffin will go there - Ole Miss will pay thru the roof to keep him.
I’m not so sure, Kiffen wants to be somewhere that can acquire top talent across the board. He wants a championship. Even today, in the new Nil and transfer era, UF is a top program able to do that. Ole Miss isn’t quite on the same level IMO.

Not saying he can’t win one at Ole Miss, just that UF would likely give him a better opportunity in the future. Who knows though, things have changed so much, perhaps I’m wrong about this.

I think the uncertainty for many is actually believe Florida is aligned in their thinking about wanting to win.

Right now, they are just a publishers clearinghouse for coaches.

It's hard for me to see Kiffin having a good relationship with Scott Stricklin but maybe UF can put enough money on the table to entice him to move now. I can see Stricklin being more aggressive trying to get Lea.

Florida mod on 247 doing a Q & A.

"It would surprise me to see UF make anyone the highest-paid coach in college football before they coach a game here, FWIW. Just my opinion"

Yeah, I agree. There have been reports in the past that UF is now more concentrated on academics than sports and such, and while that’s plausible, as they are a great academic university, I honestly can’t see them not going all in on the football program.

Who knows though? It would be a shame if that program doesn’t get the support though! We’ve seen what they are capable of. Don’t get me wrong, as a GA fan, I’d love to see UF suck, but as a CFB fan I think it would be a shame. They are capable of competing for national championships, and they should! At least once every decade or so!😂

It would be absolutely criminal if Fl didn’t call Golesh

But it also wouldn’t surprise me if they hired Franklin or Gundy

If they’re spending big $$ though I’m sure Brian Kelly would listen….

@Lawrence Wright @99gator thoughts?

Gundy need not apply.

Im good with Franklin, Golesh or Kiffin, although I don’t think Kiffin cares about winning championships.

All three are upgrades.

Your good with Franklin never winning big games?
I’m a bit surprised honestly but considering where Fl is it’s a big move in the right direction.

I think Kiffen absolutely cares about winning championships! He has said as much in the past, when talking about how he can’t get the same type of talent across the board at Ole Miss. This guy wants to win championships, or at least he did at one time.

There's a whole list of people that most think are a "no", but they will kick the tires on.

I think Kiffin is not on that list because I think he is gettable. Whether they do or not, who knows.

If not him, there are a few guys out there like Golesh who people would be good with.

Message boards are treating Kiffin like this board did Gruden. He is overwhelmingly people's choice for a variety of reasons. And "people in the know" (you know what that's worth) think he's the top target as well.

He is admittedly my choice too.

1. I think he's "bust" proof. If he doesn't win a championship, he will win games, have Florida be relevant, etc. Florida can't afford another swing and miss
2. He will have an offense and score points.
3. Maybe most underrated and perhaps most important, it would be fun again. You can use a lot of adjectives with Kiffin, boring and stupid are not two of them. Damn it, this is supposed to be fun after all. It's football.

Florida owes Dan Mullen 1 million/yr until 2027 and Napier 2.65 until 2029. They will be paying 3 head coaches until 2027 once they make a hire.

One telling part of this situation will be who hires Billy Napier next.
He won't land on his feet anywhere that matters.

Kiffin is not guaranteed to say yes. He has the perfect situation at OM. If he loses 2-3 games he is safe. He is the 2nd best HC they ever had.
UF is a mess right now, but still better than the situation Heupel walked into. Who can step in there and turn it around quickly?

Selfishly, I don’t want Golesh coaching any other SEC team. If/when he moves up to a P2* school, let it be one in the B1G.

If we have any luck on our side, USF will grab the G5 spot in the playoffs

After the Memphis loss, things look promising.

First round games are the 3rd full weekend of December. I don't see UF waiting until then to make a hire with the portal opening 10 days later.

Best case scenario for us-and maybe the world would be Golesh going to Penn State. Coming from the Heupel tree, chances are good he is going to run things above board. Lord knows that program has issues with staying on the right side of things.

FL will be paying three head coaches for the second time in seven years once they hire Napier's replacement; they did the same with Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain and Mullen in 2018.

Penn State forced our hand. We needed all potential replacements to know that the UF job is open so those coaches don’t jump at offers from Penn State or others. Also, we need time to solidify retention of key players before they jump ship.
