This game magnifies Heupel’s deficiencies

Boo I agree on Redmond is a freshman he may be ok with exp

He’s played 7 games and I have yet to see him do anything except get beat like a rented mule. The weak tackle attempt last night was glaring as well. You would think he would show flashes of getting better but it hasn’t happened. We punted and put them on the 1 yard line. He immediately plays 9 yards off the receiver and gives up an easy 1st down catch. You know the rest.

The deficiency is in the roster. Turpentine and Telander can't be the starters on a championship level defensive team. We need athletes. High level talent to really complement the defensive line. We aren't good enough.

Right before half, Aguilar should have thrown the ball away and let us kick at a field goal. Ultimately blame the head coach but also understand what went on.
Pure copium. This team played Georgia and Alabama to basically a stalemate but couldn't make big plays when it mattered most. That's coaching. They tackle poorly. Coaching. They are undisciplined and commit too many pre-snap penalties. Coaching. They are routinely put at a disadvantage with poor playcalling and clock management on both sides of the ball. Coaching.

When Cignetti can take INDIANA into Autzen Stadium in year two and dominate an Oregon team that has one of the best rosters money can buy, don't give me this "jimmies and joes" routine when Heupel can't beat a quality opponent on the road in year five. It's his roster, by the way.

There is no reason to call play action when there is no threat of the run. There is especially no reason to call play action when the other team calls timeout to make sure everyone knows there is no threat of the run.

Penalties galore in every game. We drop more passes than anyone in the country. Heupel beats himself, and his teams beat themselves. If he could get out of his own way, he could be very good. But this was unacceptable and inexcusable in year 5 against a beatable Bama team.
You act like this Bama team are bums lol. Just more of your Heupel hate drivel. This post matches your name.

Wrong. It’s not coaching. These players are not making the plays. Joeys pick 6 wasn’t the best play call but it was a HORRIBLE throw. Crompton said the same thing. Missed tackles. The pass interferences. That’s on the players.

And also let’s stop pretending like this Bama team is somehow not good. The FSU loss was a long time ago. Since then Bama has looked like one of the best teams in the nation. At some point you have to start holding these players who are getting paid accountable for their actions. The whole well it’s just coaching is over.

Back in the day me and my buddy use to play ncaa on PlayStation. He would set up for a fg on his own 20. Something always told me it was going to be a fake.

They aren’t bums but they aren’t elite like years past. Neither has been Georgia. Both very winnable games and not just this year.
They aren’t the prime Saban era Bama but they are much better than you and some others think. What team couldn’t they hang with? Maybe OSU? Who else? UGA just beat a top 10 Ole Miss. And both Bama and UGAs roster are better than ours.

I think thats how they are coached or something they have been doing that since CJH and staff got to TN . Maybe it clicks for Redmond but Boo has talent but really looks like he could care less .

I never said they were bad but I don’t believe they are nearly as elite like in years past.

Its year 5 and we arent Wake Forest. His "well he's better than what we had previously" equity is starting to run out with me. Coaches at major football programs are hired to do one thing, to win conference and national championships! Not to simply win more than they lose and meander year after year. At this point, this staff is not doing the things needed to get us there.
I don't disagree with you. It should be expected that we evolve and keep getting better. I like Heupel but things are starting to feel stagnant.

I asked chatgpt about Heupel and this game specifically. Here it what it says:

Against an elite opponent on the road, Tennessee under Heupel still struggles with consistency, fundamentals, and avoiding the game-changing negative plays. The preparation for hostile environments and high-stakes games appears still lagging.

Well thank God for Chat GPT! Otherwise we never could've formulated that perspective!

Well said...It's year 5, folks need to let go of 6....8...10 years ago. Heupel makes 9 million per year and is 100 percent responsible for every player and coach on the team. The buck stops with him.

The better than what we had is like me saying my bruised toe is better than my broken back.

Top 10 in win percentage in FBS since Heup took over. You acted like went from 6 wins to 8 wins when we’ve been a top 15 program the last 4.5 years

We consistently have players that can’t get into formation. The LB is talking to the DB and the D-Tackle is watching them try to figure it out bc he can’t figure it out ALL AS THE BALL IS BEING SNAPPED. All while we give their receivers a 9 yard cushion on 3rd down.
And this is on the coaching at this point. That needs to be addressed if they have to spend the freakin night out on the football field. Too much looking around and toward the sidelines and the ball isn’t about to be snapped. This is unacceptable and has been going on all freakin year at times. It’s time to practice what they preach and clean it up for good!

That Bama team is one of the worst teams against the run in the country and what did we do when we needed yards? Tried to throw. That is coaching and it’s STUPID coaching that you don’t need to get paid millions to F up! Sorry but last night showed me that Heupel will never bring a national championship to TN. He can get us to the playoffs and I guess that is fine for some, but we will never be a serious title contender. Heck we weren’t last year and in 2022 we were until USC pants the team! Quit being cute and run the damn ball down their throats until they show they can stop it! We are 22nd in the country in rush offense. Bama was 95th against the rush. We should be rushing to open the passing against Bama whose I think top 20 against the pass, but instead we decided to pass to open the run and you don’t have to against Bama because they are terrible against the rush. All of that is stupid coaching, not good coaching. So keep your excuses to yourself, they lost badly in a game they should have prob won, but those of us with actual sense knew they prob wouldn’t because when nut cutting time comes Heup seems to cut his own off instead of the other.

We threw 44 times last night and gave up 4 sacks for a total of 48 drop backs. We rushed 29 times. No reason against their terrible defensive line that we should have thrown the ball that often, first series was 10 passes to 3 runs, that’s effing stupid play calling, you can call it whatever you want, but that’s what it is!

Its more than that, its literally bad play calling, mistakes, and bad coaching in the secondary. This has been the same thing over the years now. At least try and fix them... Make coaching changes, get more portal people. DO ANYTHING other than the same thing over and over again thinking it will work.
Since play calling is so bad, why doesn’t our offensive Coordinator call the plays? It should be most of his job!!

Stop making excuses for poor coaching and poor preperation. CJH still can't manage a game.

The only thing sadder than Nico not being able to get adjusted to the speed of the SEC game has been Heupel's inability to adjust to the level of precision, performance and near perfection and excellence in execution required to win the big time SEC games that you have to have at the upper tier of the SEC.

The center snapping when nobody else is ready is laughable, a horrible 4th and 18 inches to the goal call after the opposition's time out with no change or other adjustment in the play is indicative of the laid back Heupel coaching philosophy, a 91 yard Alabama drive which features consecutive past interference with another pass interference with a late hit on the quarterback fully demonstrates the fundamentals necessary to compete at this level are not being taught.

Heupel has a ceiling, it's a perimeter playoff team on years the Alabama game is in Knoxville and the road schedule doesn't feature significant conference games, otherwise on those other years its 8-4 or 7-5 with runs to the Music City Bowl or the Gator Bowl, where fans and draft eligible players simply elect to opt out of the year end celebration.

Don't think that model will be sustainable for purposes of continuing to recruit top shelf talent, but we'll have to see.
