Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

One more thing. Heupel has no confidence in our DC. Want to know how I know? Because he plays every end of half the same way. He is trying to take away remaining time on the clock so the other team can't go 75 yards in 1 minute to score. He has become predictable in his playcalling as a result. We run clock and then put our offense in terrible situations related to clock late in the half. Is causing us to lose points and last night became a 10–14-point swing. Look at our games this year.

- Against Arkansas we were conceding to halftime, then Bishop ripped one and put us at midfield. Obviously, we seemed unprepared for that and failed to convert.

- MSST. Stopped Bothwell at MSST 28-yard line with 1:01 left on the clock. Didn't take a timeout????? Clock runs to 14 seconds, and they punt.

- Bama. 2nd and 10 from Bama 27 with 1:30 left in the half. We hand off to Thomas for a gain of 1 yard. We then allow 40 seconds to run before the next play????? This was defensive play calling. We were scared of leaving them any time on the clock prior to halftime. If he had confidence in his DC, this would not happen.

To compound the issue, we hand it off to Bishop and he is tackled at the Bama 5-yard line. I'm screaming "Timeout!" Nope. We allow 12 seconds to run and then hand it off again. This put us in the predictable situation and the pick-6. If Tennessee needs a stat guy to handle timeouts, I will do it for free. Just put me through the headset.

💯 and the 12 seconds running off was him not managing the clock and it’s a weakness. I was yelling for it as well. Put us in a horrible position

and then you woke up and it was all a dream...

we aren't beating any of those teams unfortunately at this point and you better watch out this coming weekend at Kroger field...
This is why I try not to get on VN as much on Game Days and Suns after a loss............

My god people. A 99 yrd pick 6 (14 point flip) changed the game. Period. One play!

EDIT:

And in this league........That gets you beat!

Heupel is fine. He needs to make some major changes to his staff. We have to get more disciplined and better position coaches at spots.

Agree. But I don’t trust that he’ll do that. It’s been five years and we haven’t fired a single coach. I’m not sure Heupel thinks the issues are as glaring as the fans do. If this team just did the little things right, they’d be much less frustrating to watch and I’d feel more hopeful about the future. I just don’t think I can expect a five year long issue to ever get magically resolved. It seems to just be a staple of a Heupel team.

It’s why he needs a true OC and can focus on the game and not play calling. It’s hard to do both. Then he can better manage games and timeouts.

Literally not seen one person say that. Making stuff up. It’s not wrong to question many things. While we’re a few plays away from one loss, we are a few plays away from 3-4 losses too.
Tons of people have said to fire him
Quit being naive
No credit is given for those 3-4 plays that won us games either
Look across college football

Bama lost to FSU
Kirby lost to bama
Arky almost beat A&M
Texas smoked Oklahoma then nearly lost to UK
Ole miss almost lost to wash st then lost to georgia
Vandy beat LSU

College football has no dominant team anymore
No gimme wins
Players have to make plays

I think it’s time to overturn both coordinators. Hazle isn’t terrible compared to Banks, but he’s obviously in over his head. And Banks…well one solid year doesn’t make you a championship caliber coordinator.

Poster I4Jay nailed it before he was hired. He said our offensive concepts would be majorly upgraded but his teams lack discipline and fundamentals. It’s why he needs a true OC and better DC. He could win championships by changing his staff and taking outside help on a few things.

Hmm - I guess I never saw this season that way, especially after Nico left

Nico wasn’t a world beater but introducing a new QB in June lowered my expectations
Nico was always holding the offense back. This is the best Oline and most talented wr corps Heup has had here. Our RB is averaging 8 YPC. I was saying before the season idk why people were so negative on the team and it wouldn’t be a down year

Those people are dumb. That said, my issue with Heupel isn’t his coaching ability, it’s is his managerial skills. A solid college coach nowadays has to manage personnel, players, recruits, families, the clock, the in-game decisions, the refs, the media, etc. So far, he’s lacking in managing personnel and that’s showing up in these types of games. He’s gotta get away from the fear of firing people and just pull the trigger. This staff needs massive overhauls or else he’ll continue to struggle in the big games that matter.

That’s good people
Jim Chaney is helping
Bama wanted inge
Everyone loved banks last year
Lost 2 top cbs
Young lbs

Safety play is bad and I do blame banks for that

Need to portal guys

I think a lot of people (myself included) are also just more annoyed with the loss than they would be if it didn’t come on the heels of the Vitello news. We all knew going into Tuscaloosa was an uphill battle and a likely loss. If yesterday is just a normal Saturday, they reaction to the loss probably isn’t quite as heated.
