100%Anyone else feel that Heup = Mark Richt?
Hear me out.
Super good dude.
Players love him.
Player families love him.
Floor is 8 wins.
But ceiling is pretty much 10-2 and a couple of decent wins here and there but you never play for anything significant (SECCG, Natty).
And maybe after our decade+ of dysfunction, that’s okay.
But maybe it’s not…?
IDK. I’ve been drinking like most of us still on here at this hour.
Go Vols
Richt played for a few SECG so not sure how your point holds up overallAnyone else feel that Heup = Mark Richt?

IDK. The new 9 game SEC schedule complicates this math. And I’ve been drinking like most of us still on here at this hour…

**Edit… I’ll always love Heup for taking the job when nobody else would. And he made us relevant again. So I don’t discredit that. But my thoughts above still have my thoughts turning. Go Vols.
Mark Richt was at UGA for 14 years. We dont know what Heups ceiling is here. Heups been great but he will have to continue to grow and evolve. Im nowhere close to giving up on him and what hes building here.Anyone else feel that Heup = Mark Richt?

He actually won 2 in his early years. But his point is accurate imo. Gonna make some decisions that make u scratch ur head, gonna lose some games he shouldn’t, gonna sh!t the bed in big games but also gonna have some really damn good teams that make u think hes the man. Overall pretty good but not greatRicht played for a few SECG so not sure how your point holds up overall
It’s not accurate because his point was we will never play for anything meaningful. And I guarantee he’d sh*t himself with joy for a SEC title in football. As all of us on this board would. He actually won 2 in his early years. But his point is accurate imo. They also both have the same winning record vs ranked teams

Fair. Kind of.Richt played for a few SECG so not sure how your point holds up overall
And in the modern day, Richt would’ve been in the playoffs quite often
I’m definitely not giving up either.Mark Richt was at UGA for 14 years. We dont know what Heups ceiling is here. Heups been great but he will have to continue to grow and evolve. Im nowhere close to giving up on him and what hes building here.
Richt isn’t exactly known for playing in championship games. He’s known for a being a decent coach that **** the bed in big games but had a few pretty damn good teams sprinkled in. Heupel also already made the playoffs so the trajectory is pretty damn accurate.(So far)It’s not accurate because his point was we will never play for anything meaningful. And I guarantee he’d sh*t himself with joy for a SEC title in football. As all of us on this board would.
This is a ridiculous conversation to even have lmfao
Once we get to year 10-14, then yeah we can bring it up. We are in year 5. Year 2 brought us to heights we haven’t seen in over a decade.Fair. Kind of.
But also fair to say that he was fired for it not being good enough.
His best season was his second season and won a lot of ball games after that but the perception was he never could get over the “proverbial hump”. That’s the point.
I also agree that there’s no guarantee your next hire is a Kirby.
So I’m not saying make changes. Not at all. More so asking the question.
I’m just saying my point is, we feel like a 8-10 win team under Heup in current schedule formats. 7-9 win team in future sec schedules.
Maybe that’s good enough. It’s definitely better than we’ve had the 15 prior years before Heup. And I hope he makes me eat crow.
I would not say they play hard, consistently. On offense they play hard but lack focus sometimes. On defense it seems only when they have their backs against the wall. We play down to our competition a whole lot. We do have some players that are on it all the time (like Carter, West), but our youth shows a lot in our inconsistency and lack of urgency for 50%+ of Gametime, imo.I really do like this team. Not elite given the injuries, but they play hard.
The OP said “playing for anything meaningful” so per your post, the OP is a hypocrite since “we already made the playoffs” lolRicht isn’t exactly known for playing in championship games. I thought we were better for the majority of game time but when we weren’t it was catastrophic.Bama was better tonight, but not THAT much better IMO
Tennessee just has to avoid the explosive diarrhea in the bed moments.
Everything is still ahead of this team and I’m proud they didn’t just lay down in the 2nd Half. Previous teams would’ve gotten drug by 35 points.
Sure the never playing for anything meaningful was off base. The Richt comparison is accurate until it’s notThe OP said “playing for anything meaningful” so per your post, the OP is a hypocrite since “we already made the playoffs” lol
So what’s meaningful at this point? SECCG? Playoffs? Natty? Moving goalposts all around
We were elite last year. Lost some veterans. Guys out to injury, but agreed still too big a drop off. We’re not stacking talent well enough if depending on our starters is the difference between give up sub 300 and pushing 500. Only two guys out now are the starting corners, but we still look either lost in coverage or outmatched too often.Basically sums up my thoughts, it’s just time to admit heup cant coach on the road, it seems like every meaningful road game under him at night we have looked completely unprepared for
