I agree with your 2nd paragraph, but we really aren't close to competing for a natty in any of the other major sports. Got our doors blown off in the fb playoffs and in the elite eight.Hard to say not "remotely close". We finished in the Top 12 in the country in football, and the Top 8 in the country in Mens BB, and Top 16 in the country in Women's BB. Like....we are good all around man, and have been close to winning championships in other sports. But baseball was the one who did it.
I am sure that Danny White will do all he can to keep CTV. But sometimes, it isn't all about money. Sometimes its about wanting to see what you're capable of on a different level with a different level of challenge. TV may want that for himself. He may be tired of the constant travel and recruiting. If he stays, we would love to have him. If he leaves, it isn't gonna be because DW didn't do all he could. TV loves UT, but he may have other goals he wants to work towards. I'm a Tennessee fan, but I'm a Tony Vitello fan, and whatever team he coaches for, if it is a pro team, I'm gonna be a fan of. He is a good dude and has been nothing but great for our university.
As @chuckiepoo says, get in line brother. Space City number one in queue.I agree. And if he must, I would rather him go to the Braves.
I think most people would highly disagree with you brother. Ohio State blew the doors off of everyone. Not a fair comparison when they were a buzz saw. And basketball? We absolutely are playing at a championship level. But again, only one team can win it. To say we aren't close, when we literally were 2 games away is just not true. Our basketball team this year is probably one of the deepest and most talented one we have had.I agree with your 2nd paragraph, but we really aren't close to competing for a natty in any of the other major sports. If you get close enough to make it in the CFP or the Elite 8, then you're pretty damn close. There are literally 100 programs who would love to be as close as we have been.
I've witnessed more than a few dark days in UT sports history, but yesterday was especially depressing. Losing to Bama was bad enough, but this news hit hard. Not even sure I'd want to return to the SEC Tournament in Hoover, & our family has been going there for 20+ years.Hard to say not "remotely close". Exactly. He was already making more than 25 mlb managers. Giants is an awful fit. In same division as Dodgers and Padres is a losing proposition as well.I know there’s a lure to pro sports, but I don’t know about going to San Francisco or any team in California given the ridiculous taxes and cost of living. I’d be surprised if whatever he makes there nets him more than what he makes now.
What’s the holdup with the stadium? The point is it doesn’t help that CTV and DW have a less than stellar working relationship. I know Title IX impacts revenue sharing allocation but DW is likely taking care of LB basketball and softball at BaseVols expense. Personally I think CTV wants (and deserves) revenue sharing and NIL budget commiserate with a top 5 program. CTV has publicly stated he needs to leverage the portal more to compete in Omaha. Finally, the mismanagement of LNS renovation has been a source of frustration. It won’t be fully completed until Feb 2027. That’s just absurd for it to take 3 years.
If true, I'd leave, too. When he does get fired, he can have his pick of college jobs which likely won't have Danny White and playing in a construction zone. The point is it doesn’t help that CTV and DW have a less than stellar working relationship. I don’t think he would go back to college. Most likely front office in MLB.If true, I'd leave, too. When he does get fired, he can have his pick of college jobs which likely won't have Danny White and playing in a construction zone.
Sad that we couldn't get out of our own way in order to keep what I consider to be the best head coach this side of Neyland and Summit this school will likely ever have.
Buy a better DC. Buy a "use your arms when you tackle" coach. Stop letting your players hit the Neyland sign when they run out onto the field, when they then proceed distribute miscues all over said field. Are we the most penalized team in the SEC? I mean our center fails to snap the ball once a game. Vanderbilt has a better defense. Vanderbilt. Our discipline is simply NOT the discipline of a playoff caliber team. The desire is there. The effort is there but they shoot themselves in the foot all over the field. If he leaves, thank him for the natty and use his salary money to buy football players.
