Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Danny White is the only reason Tony is still here.

Tony is already among the highest paid coaches in MLB.

With California taxes and cost of living, they'd have to raise him to at least meet his current take-home pay which would probably make him a Top 5 manager in terms of pay. So, if this happens I don't think its a money thing I think its about the prestige of being a head coach in the MLB and I don't blame him really. He won the whole thing, and now he can chase something that few, if anyone, has ever accomplished.

Let's secure Elander.
You don’t have the control or autonomy in the MLB that you do here. If he goes he’ll hate it and regret it for forever. Think Nick Saban and Miami Dolphins. Steve Spurrier and Washington.

You know what to do Tony. Get your raise and stay here so you can get that statue built.

If Tony goes I'll have no hate for him. He brought us a title and completely changed the program.

Part of me feels the delay is because TSIO, DW is in Tuscaloosa and Tony wants to do this face to face, and Tony wants to make sure everything is taken care of as far as his replacement and encouraging the guys to stay.

I don't think Tony wants to leave, I think he wants to challenge himself.

You don’t graduate from bama. You get given a piece of paper after 8 years there because they need to make room for the next class of Walmart assistant managers.

Ya know we lost a very good WR recruit with this line of thinking back in the day only he was going to be pumping gas but later went on to the NFL🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yall gotta think more realistically here.

Tony is a first time HC, has built an elite program and won a national championship at 47. He is the hottest name in baseball.

If he leaves for San Francisco it has nothing to do with money or NIL or DW.

It has everything to do with “Am I good enough to do this at the highest level” and those of you that know baseball will agree a college coach with no professional experience getting an opportunity almost never happens.

So this very well could be Tony’s only shot to make this move.

It’s MLB vs College in this decision, nothing else.
It’d be foolish to think great success at the collegiate level will translate to the pros. It’s comparing apples and oranges, even in the NIL era. Plenty of examples of legendary college coaches that have tried and failed. I’m not aware of many that have ever done it successfully.
MLB: Bureaucracy. If Tony doesn’t like some decisions being out of his hand here, imagine having almost no say in the MLB. He’d be betting his future on the San Fran ownership and leadership as much as he’d be betting on himself, if not more. I would never make that bet. Stay here and bet on yourself everyday with a program and fanbase behind you every step of the way.

This is where I am as well.

Every competitor if they reach the pinnacle at their current level at least ask the question, 'could I win at a higher level?' Some get the opportunity, some don't. Some win at that next level, some don't. This is a top 10 all-time MLB franchise that's apparently pursuing Tony V. They're doing that based on what he's built. I couldn't name a player on UT's baseball roster when he was hired. Now I'm keeping up with baseball recruiting and fall ball scrimmages and I don't even like baseball that much! I'm doing it because of what was built and the sustained excellence. I hope that continues with or without Tony V. But regardless, this isn't Tony spurning UT if he leaves. It's a competitor seeing if he can win at the highest level (and he will be getting to coach Drew Gilbert again).

I'm grateful for what he's accomplished and hope he stays, but if not, I'm not seeing him as Benedict Arnold.

Rafael Devers has a $313 million dollar guaranteed contract. Good luck motivating him especially after first time CTV jumps his ass for not hustling... MLB players are totally different from the college guys... But I wish CTV well if it's true ..
Devers fittin to spit a wad of chaw in Tony’s face the first time he tries something.

You ask any kid that plays football, what’s the dream? “Win a Super Bowl”

In baseball it’s to win a World Series.

I think Tony never expected a top level MLB team to come calling, even if he decides to say no…that’s the sort of opportunity where you say “Well, let me think about this…”

I hate to see TV leave but in a way I cant blame him.Now he has to get pros to listen to him the way kids do and not so sure it will happen. He might want to talk to Saban and seek advice. Pros is a lot different than college. Best of luck to him. Bring on Elander unless he goes with him
