Penn St fires James Franklin

I totally disagree. The media 100% prefers second fiddle SEC teams over second fiddle Big Ten teams. You think they want Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan St, etc. in big spots over LSU, A&M, Tennessee, UF, etc.?
I didn't mean it that way. I was referring to the way they fawn over UA, UGA, TX, OU and UF till they can't verses the rest of the conference. There's two levels of SEC media bias within the conference. But that's just my viewpoint. This is all subjective anyways. Bias toward B10 mid-tier and SEC mid-tier is fools gold. They'd look even more silly than their annual the U is back, and FSU is back, and so on. Let's face it. Miami and FSU will never again be 90's and early 2000's Miami and FSU. Cristobol and today's Miami is as close as you'll ever see yesterday's Miami again. And with their academic interests and clout as a university, they are lucky to have what they have.

IU is basking in the media sun because the B10 has no one else to ride right now besides tOSU and Oregon.

How do you know how much money they have or how much they are willing to spend on the next HC? Franklin won 13 games last year. Why fire him and hire a guy that has never coached a down as a HC? I don't believe PSU would make a move like this unless they believe that they can get a proven guy.
Read my post ALL the way through..I've enjoyed many friendships over 40 years covering sports, heck even in Pa...Go figure..I don't post BS..My guys know what's going on..Since you're questioning me on what I know, how do you know they DO have the money??

Carry on

Mark my words:

The next football coach at Penn Stare should be Brian Hartline with Matt Guerreri and Billy Fessler. It's amazing how much these guys juat get after the game of recruiting. Imagine Dan Lanning and his plan of Tosh Lupoi and Will Stein. Now the only problem they have is Hartline is ummm (iffy) at calling plays hence you bring in Billy Fessler as well as hire a offensive genius like ummm...... Steve Ensimger and you really got a core. The thing is PSU is a really easy job to recruit for OL, LB, CB and DL....monsters of men in PA, Michigan, DelMarVA area and cherrybpick a few here and there...but what does it lack. GREAT QB and WR play....I mean Jaxon Smith, Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and Jeremiah Smith type stuff....and if sny of Sayins development is because of Fessler then lookout.

More and more schools as time goes on are going to have to go the unproven route. PSU absolutely has to contact him, but he's making over $8m/year at Indiana and could probably squeeze another million out of them via interest from another school (especially another school in the conference). It's basically the same they were paying Franklin.

Just a few years ago, the difference between the salary of Indiana's coach and Penn St's coach would be much more drastic, even if Indiana was really good.

Mark Cuban is bankrolling Indiana athletics right now after he sold the Mavericks. If Cignetti wants more money, they will find a way.

Coach Cig is coming up on his belt to ass moment. He has done well, but he runs his mouth like he is Saban’s daddy. He doesn’t yet have the resources nor manpower to cash the checks his mouth writes. When a real team gets the opportunity, they will take him behind the woodshed and make him like it.
A real team like Oregon? Cause that's the only good team they play and Indiana spanked them.

@DeerPark12
Any idea how JF's contract was structured?
Single Lump Sum? (because he negotiated it down?)
Starting lump and the rest over years?
All of it over years?

There were rumors he "negotiated" the buy out .... if true that would imply he was willing to take a starting lump and then "actively" look for a new job.

My 2 cents ... James was READY to leave (not the players or coaches, but) Pennsylvania and the administration ... I'm betting on a year off (from coaching) ... he could take an advisory/consulting gig ... then he returns to coaching in 27 or 26 [if the got the starting lump and if it is the right fit.]
I predict Franklin to UCLA, Orgeron to Auburn, Kiffin stays put (for now), Petrino keeps the Arky job, florida goes rogue and hires Gruden instead of Golesh, regrets it after 2 years and then hires Kiffin, Kelly gets a raise to stay at LSU and penn st hires Matt Campbell, and Mike Gundy to Iowa St.

Depends on which media you're referring to. ESPN shills for the SEC because it has a vested interest in its success. Fox has the same relationship with the Big-10. We should expect to hear people who work for those companies to shill for those conferences.

The media ecosystem overall favors the SEC. It's where most of the money and interest in the sport is.

Respectfully, your definition of elite is different than mine. A coached ranked top 10 or 20 is good. You gotta be at least top 5 year in, year out to be elite in my mind.
Fair. I'd say top 5 year in and year out is legendary, but yeah, I see your point. In retrospect, I'd probably agree that top 10-15 year in and year out is elite, but I stand by I think he's elite. Can't honestly think of 10 coaches I'd rather have.

The program that comes out on top is the one that quietly sneaks in and grabs Bill Clark off the shelf. He has expressed interest in returning after his back operation has healed for a couple...in the right program.
