Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

The defense needs to show up but it’s hard to get hopes up when they’ve been continuously gashed. Hopefully the offense can put some points up and heup doesn’t start taking knees if we go up 3-0. The conservative playcalling has got to go. At some point it doesn’t matter what the defense shows you have to line up and beat the guy on the other side. “At the end of the day…..”

Agree totally on the conservative style Hype likes to resort to when we get rolling. Reminds me of Don Devoe, go on a 14 to 2 run and then suddenly start taking the air out of the ball and run the 4 corners offense with 10 minutes to go. Annoying as all hell.

Mine was smarter, she took the money and ran, Steve Miller Band style.

Believe it or not...SMB put on one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Saw them on top of the mountain in a natural cliff amphitheater in Park City, Utah. They played pretty much every decent song theyve ever recorded and then for the encore came back out like 2mins later and played "the joker, take the money and run, wild mountain honey"etc all over again. They sounded exactly like they sound on the radio/album and put on an awesome show. I was almost old enough to drive and the guy and his gf right in front of my Dad, sister, and I fired up a fatty as soon as the show started and kept one burning for the entire show. He had a cigarette pack worth of taters rolled up and ready before the show and passed em around too. I looked at my Dad about halfway thru the show and we both busted out laughing. He said "hope the Air Force doesnt piss me this month" and I told him I was high as a kite. Only time in my life I have ever gotten high unintentionally, or from 2nd hand smoke. We were blistered though and giggled like little kids. Pretty sure I have told this story before, but anyway SMB was excellent in concert even without being stoned. That was 30+ years ago circa 1992? Maybe 91.

I think we will have to score about 40 points to win this one. Joey is having a great season but Ty Simpson has played even better. We have to put him on his back too...but Vandy and Mizzou both sacked him 4 times and he still beat them. He also still completed over 70% of his passes vs them and has only thrown 1pick all season with as many TDs as Joey at 15. He will probably win the Heisman this year. Especially if he outplays Joey on national TV Saturday night. Wish he would go pro after this year but I dont think he will unless he is gonna be a top10 pick.

Was that 94, I saw them then and that was the encore?

Just packed my bag for tomorrow’s trip to the shathole of Tuscerlooser and now I’m sitting here pondering whether or not I want it to be a high scoring game or low scoring game Saturday and which one benefits us the most. On one hand a low scoring game means that we are definitely in it til the end, on the other hand I think we are just a little bit more explosive on offense than the Tide is and are more successful when we put up big scores. Something tells me it’s not going to be a scoring fest for either side. What do you guys think? We better off in a high scoring shootout or a low scoring game where we know it’s close and definitely have a chance to win in the end?
I don't know which is better. higher scoring sounds better for us, but "keeping it up" has been a problem for us this year. I think it also fits our feast or famine defense too. a couple big time stops and turnovers will be huge. what happens though is Joey starts floating some prayers out there that also turn into turnovers too often. hopefully he learns to throw away rather than just chucking it blindly down the field.

but with how much the offenses are talked about, I could see this being one of those strange defensive games. ends up being 13 to 17 type situation

I got my license in 93 so i am pretty sure it was the year before but it may have been 93 or 94. Honestly they probably played the same exact show for all of those years though. His hits were from the late 70s and 80s i think so its not like he was dropping a bunch of new stuff. I only knew a couple of there songs from the radio before the show and wasnt really excited about going...i was surprised how good they were and both his vocals and their excellence on guitar, bass, drums etc was really evident. I have been to dozens of concerts and festivals and i can promise you this: the SMB put on a much better show and are far more talented musicians than a lot of the headliners i have seen at concerts who were selling millions of albums and all over the radio/TV. Some bands really suck live compared to the polished sound of their studio recordings. Some bands sound the same or better but those are rare in my experience and its usually because they are very skilled musicians and the singer actually has a really good voice. SMB was one of those who shined in person back then.

This is a great short breakdown (20 mins) of what we are doing on defense and why we changed. Also Brooks flat out calls Petrino a sabateur after watching the film vs ND and then vs the VOLS. Says Petrino tanked it to get him fired, then threw the kitchen sink at UT which is why they were able to have 5 scoring drives ALL of which were 9 plays or more (4TD 1FG). He never mentions that Arkansas offensive Tackles literally TACKLED our DEs repeatedly without the holding call...which AP has been ranting about all week ...but he does have the balls to flat call Petrino out on the radio for tanking on offense to get Pittman fired. He also says that despite Ark having 5 scoring drives on 11 possessions, that the last 2 were meaningless drives after we went conservative on defense bc the game was in hand with a 17pt lead early 4th quarter. After the first 9 drives of the game for Ark when we played our best guys and didnt give huge cushions to WRs on the outside..we stopped ark 6/9 times including 4TOs. (3fumbles, 1downs). He does call out our problems vs the run etc then breaks down Bama. Good stuff. Petrino is a snake man.

Also when pressed by the hosts about our defense, Brooks being a man who isnt blind talks about a "weakness at the 2nd and 3rd level between the hashes, particularly against the run" but refuses to call out the Safeties by name or number. When the host says "we watch the games and know its Turrentine, #2 seems to not want to make tackles" Brooks simply says "its hard to watch sometimes".

Its been an issue for years . What sucks is this team has the best offense in the SEC halfway thru the season, and a very good Dline that leads the SEC in sacks etc. The problems from the Safety and LBs not named Arion is gonna keep us from making a playoff run this year IMO. Might keep us from making the playoffs. Regardless we have been fun to watch and have exceeded expectations this season. It just sucks to waste this offense and Joeys season, just like it sucked to waste that defense last year when we could only score what 19pts vs Ark?

We can hope that he's getting these numbers the same way Nico did last year, take sacks instead of throwing the ball away to keep the completion percentage up, and not throwing 50/50 balls giving our defense a chance for a pick.

dang, to think my original opinion of Petrino could be even worse.
he better hope he gets job, or it might and should be his last. backstabber.

@McDad, I see you survived yesterday because you're still around to like posts. The great thing about that practical joke you played on McRib yesterday is that she could possibly misuse the word "precipice" for months or even years before someone calls her out on it. Of course, that also increases her odds of eventually cashing in on your life insurance policy whenever she finds out about your deception.

I think if it turns into a shoot out we’ll have to get to at least 45 pts to win. If it’s high scoring then it’ll depend on which defense can finally get a stop when it matters most late in the game and I haven’t seen anything yet from our D to be confident that it’ll be us that does it, we have so far been quite soft across the middle late in games, that will have to change. Their defense doesn’t exactly instill fear in me either though, but they’ll have the home field advantage which I would think is at least worth 7 to 10 points. I expect a close game whether it be low or high scoring, I think and hope we’ll be in it with a chance at the end.

But there wasn't life insurance proceeds to be had at that time.

Never be worth more dead to someone than you are alive. Words to live by.

**Especially if that person has insane hormonal fluctuations on a monthly basis, to where she hates everyone around her for a couple days straight. The 2 above conditions...combined with nearly unlimited "motive" and "opportunity" is a recipe for "fatal home accidents".😆

My buddy and his significant other were fussing lately before i got over to his house apparently. She came out and jumped in his SRT Durango and took off. He muttered under his breath " I'd cut your brake lines, but you're driving MY truck." Lmao. We had a good laugh

The only evidence of being clutch by our defense was vs MSU. When they faked the punt it could have been game over...but the very next play our defense sack...fumble...TD. That was balls out. Probably what gave them the juice for the 4 down goal line stand in OT.

They did also stop Arkansas on 5 consecutive possessions last week giving up zero points and forcing 2 turnovers. Then the coaches went prevent style on defense giving 8 to 12 yard cushions and predictably they walked the ball down the field. Bama has 3 NFL WRs playing right now in Horton, Bernard and Williams. Their offense is better than Arkansas. We will definitely have to score 40 to win IMO. Hope that i am wrong

I remember listening to The Joker (space cowboy) in the early 70s on WLS after dark on my trusty am transistor radio.

Thank you.

I will beg for a final moment of grace before she kills me to post "it was worth it".
