Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

The coolest thing I’ve seen in Neyland in a long time was the crowd chanting “Joey, Joey, Joey” when he was down. When he got up he gently patted his heart a couple times to thank the crowd.
Don’t know if they saw that on tv.

Then to come back in and carry the ball first play back……

Yeah he fell down with the ball right under his shoulder pads in his stomach and that knocks the wind completely out of your lungs. Did it in practice before, thankfully not in a game. Thats a horrible feeling. We were yelling Joey too that was cool. I dont know if they could hear it on TV or not? I have never been to a game where the refs got booed 7 or 8 times either like this game. How did you get all the way down to the field Slice? Yall got in there early too I guess?

it was clearly audible on tv

I've had the wind knocked out of me too and for a minute it hurts worse and feels way more alarming than most serious injuries

100%. Thats a horrific feeling man. When literally all the air is knocked out of your lungs and they deflate...when i tried to draw air again it was like my lungs were suctioned shut and would inflate again. Hurts quite a bit too. I had it happen recovering a fumble someone else caused at practice, and once when i fell off a ceiling joist because it wasnt nailed on both ends and it rolled over on me. Fell 9 feet down to the plywood floor below (thank you Lord, not concrete) and I landed flat on my back. It knocked the wind out of me the same way from my back which I didnt know was possible until it happened. Its a scary feeling when you cannot breathe. No bueno.

playing soccer I had a guy essentially do a flying side kick into my abdomen once that knocked my breath out. cleats and everything. It felt like I never could catch my breath, until one of my teammates came over and slapped my back so hard I am sure it bruised. but that worked.

its incredibly weird trying to breathe in, and it just doesn't work.

we didn't even get a free kick out of it, ref was as dirty as those calling Auburn games. I had cleat marks for 2 weeks.

I had really bad asthma as a kid and also have experienced the breath being knocked out of me.

I can tell you the latter experience feels a whole lot like the first for a shorter time, which goes to say it is a terrible feeling of not being able to control one of the most fundamental things you can do for a moment.

Real anecdotes of an almost-30 year marriage:

*over coffee*

McRib: What does "precipice" mean?
McDad: That's random. Where did that come from?
McRib: I dunno, I just started thinking about it but I don't remember what it means.
McDad: It means a small or tiny piece. Like, if you don't want a regular piece of pizza or you need a small amount of office supplies, you ask for a precipice of pizza, cake, paper clips, or whatever.
McRib: Ok, thanks.
McDad: No problem. You know, the best way to really learn a new word is to use it frequently after you learn it. You should look for opportunities today at the hospital to use it.
McRib: Yeah, I'm gonna do that.

I am so proud of myself for pulling that off with a straight face.

This was me and my wife's interaction after I showed her this

Lmao. That is hilarious. I could get my dragonlady with that strategy at least a couple times a year...but its just not worth it. I still remember when my SIL got a Nissan SUV. My wife had just seen it when they brought it home and was talking about how pretty it was. I asked her what kind of truck it was and she said:

Her: its a Nissan "Rouge" . Really pretty.
Me: " I think you mean "Rogue" but sounds nice."
Her: "Rogue? What is Rogue. I don't even think thats a word."
Me: " its definitely a word. Usually means when someone leaves the group and goes wild. "Rouge" is a shade of red. Like the crayon,or makeup."
Her: "I hate you and your Mom."

Good times. Marriage is so rewarding. I have no idea why marriage and birth rates are plummeting below replacement level in nearly every Western country. I don't correct her anymore unless she asks me to proof something etc. Let somebody else make that mistake..if they dare. 😆

I hate you and your mom is the ultimate flex, tbh.

Just packed my bag for tomorrow’s trip to the shathole of Tuscerlooser and now I’m sitting here pondering whether or not I want it to be a high scoring game or low scoring game Saturday and which one benefits us the most. On one hand a low scoring game means that we are definitely in it til the end, on the other hand I think we are just a little bit more explosive on offense than the Tide is and are more successful when we put up big scores. Something tells me it’s not going to be a scoring fest for either side. What do you guys think? We better off in a high scoring shootout or a low scoring game where we know it’s close and definitely have a chance to win in the end?

The defense needs to show up but it’s hard to get hopes up when they’ve been continuously gashed. Hopefully the offense can put some points up and heup doesn’t start taking knees if we go up 3-0. The conservative playcalling has got to go. At some point it doesn’t matter what the defense shows you have to line up and beat the guy on the other side. “At the end of the day…..”
