Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Good grief grow up. I swear some of you think every loss we ever experience is due to officiating. So when we win is it in spite of the officiating? Did we lose to UGA because of officiating?
Officiating is a big part. There are some games where it determined the outcome, but not all.

The Bama game in 2023 probably would have been a win. Bama had a single penalty all game while draping all over our receivers (which was called on us), held with impunity, and some silliness about an arm gesture on a kickoff I’ve never seen called since that pinned us deep coming out of halftime. I’m sorry BOT, you have to be looking for an excuse to call a penalty to do that.

What about wins? It’s all above board in your opinion that the line moves significantly right before the Arkansas game and they are only penalized once when it mattered?

The blame refs after every loss crowd is wrong, and the refs are always above board crowd is wrong. There is a middle ground here that is correct.

I said a while ago... If McCoy is healthy enough to play and chooses not to because of his draft stock, then that's okay, but the NIL checks better STOP, and you can clean out your locker and go train at a local gym...

The kid is a transfer and has given TN his all, but in the new NIL era and mercenary transfer portal, they need to be treated as such... You can't have it both ways... If you are being paid and are using University facilities, then you need to earn it and play for your team... There's got to be at least something left in college football for a kid to have to follow through with his commitment to his school, teammates, and coaches...
That would be a bad decision for Tennessee. Coaches would use that as negative recruiting against Tennessee. He didn’t choose to get injured, sh*t happens, if that is the choice he makes you ride it out till the season is over with. Tennessee has some to gain with Mccoy being a high draft pick and star NFL player. When recruiting out of the portal you can show Mccoys development and high draft status as a reason to consider Tennessee. If Mccoy has a successful pro career that can be used to Tennessee's advantage as well. Last report I saw, and I'm probably behind on this, Tennessee's medical staff wasn't clearing him yet so who knows. I get the frustration, and I want Mccoy back as bad as anyone, but this whole situation sucks all the way around and I think you gotta just ride it out at this point.

What pass did Mathew’s drop against Arkansas. You need to watch more football. All teams have dropped passes even some of the best WRs in the NFL.
He didn't drop the deep pass against Arky...but he weirdly quit running on one that would have been a TD if had not let up. He looked like he quit on the route because he didn't expect to get it thrown to him. And he has dropped several TDs and 1st down throws this year. I get that it happens, but it happens far too much for a great talent like him.

He needs to have a game like Staley just had, Stanley has had the same problem this year in several games, but he had a huge game Saturday...he had to be the man since Brazzell was doubled all day...and he was THE man.

I don't get the talk about Bama being this scary infallible elite team and offense. If Vandy didn't have two redzone turnovers, they very well could have beaten Bama. They're normal good, but yes, we play like idiots on the road lol. The penalties will kill us, but we have to clean up some of the pre snap penalties and just dumb mistakes.
Vandy has a far better defense than us this year...that is inarguable whether it's weird or not...our defense just sucks this year. It is what it is at this point, they have not had one single good game, even against the scrubs.

Thus the concern that Simpson is about to throw for 400 and 5+ against our sack-o-taters defense.

I personally think, or I hope, that our defense will play a little better than that, but I totally understand why some do not.

chances are good ALA's offence will put up some big numbers, will TN's offensive numbers be bigger..

I hope our defense shows an ounce of pride and backbone this weekend. Two weeks in a row now they’re being openly clowned and called terrible by the opponent they are about to face. The bulletin board material didn’t help much last week, so probably won’t this week either, but man hopefully they are sufficiently embarrassed and have had enough of this.

Yeah I think it's Brazzell, Staley, Matthews in that order right now. Matthews is a great talent just needs to put it all together. Sometimes he doesn't look downfield to block that could break plays wide open as well. Bama can't cover our receivers and we'll likely have challenges covering theirs. Unless our defense plays lights out, or Banks calls a great game, I expect this one to be high scoring. 30s-40s.

It should be more.... a lot more. View attachment 781318
Ken Williamson has been the white hat for every game in that era except for the 2022 game (Jason Autry). I've posted several times about him, with pictures of gameplay infractions. These are some of my favorite "no calls".....View attachment 781324View attachment 781325View attachment 781326*all from the same game

I can't help it if your camp refuses to believe their own eyes.
They're either willingly blind or stupid...and I don't think they are stupid.

is it the players on defense are not that elite or the defensive scheme is not good putting players out of position to make plays....or both?

Getting a weird notification pop-up. I can't scroll down the page when it appears. It just resets to the top of the page and opens the keyboard (android). It goes away for a bit when I refresh, but eventually pops up again.

All I am saying is every game we have posters who constantly complain about the refs. And then we have some already that are building up pre made excuses about not getting called fair in Tuscaloosa. We all know it won’t be called fairly. I wonder if those same posters think visiting teams to Neyland think the same way?

You think visiting teams get fair calls in Neyland? No way. So what do you do? You make sure the refs don’t dictate the outcome the best you can

The defense made big stops in the Arkansas win. As a matter of fact, without the defense playing like it did, we likely lose.

Good approach IMO. I don't like the 'blame the refs' crowd for all bad things that happen to a team. And, I don't believe in most conspiracy theories. But with SEC officiating being so terrible, it does make me wonder. Only 1 penalty at Neyland (where the home team usually gets the calls)? No Offsides call? The Auburn/Georgia game? Makes me go hmmm.
