Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Matthews is good for a blown TD per game, it seems. I think Heupel teams are just destined to be sloppy and make a bunch of mistakes, even when we're good.
It doesn't seem that way to me and I've watched the same games you have. It looks like he's an über-talented true sophomore still trying to adjust to the highest levels of college football. He's made more plays than he's missed anyway! I don't know why so many people are hyper-focused on every mistake they can't appreciate the good. There's always more good than bad.

Teams are playing zone to limit tide big play wrs. Most teams keep their safeties back (again to limit big plays). Still don’t think you want Redmond or McMurray matched up. Saturday will be the best wrs the Vols have faced. If McCoy and Gibson were available I could see playing m2m.
It's what FSU did and they beat Bama. It's pretty much been the game plan in every game they've played. I don't think people fear Ty Simpson, and it honestly seems like Bama's offense throws to set up the pass which is bizarre.

Since Heupel arrived, we have had 6 fewer penalties than Alabama across 4 games.

Now, the home team tends to have a big advantage each year. Hopefully our OL chills on the road. That's been our one oenalty achilles heel.
Just curious, what was the penalty situation in the '22 game? That one actually felt honestly called. I would also be curious about the different crews in the different games.

Can we turn Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos into Tennessee boosters? Zuckerburg? Buffett? Anyone else with really deep pockets? Let's just start sending them Tennessee gear and hope for the best.
I’m sure a box of gear is going to get us an half a trillionaire donor…

While we’re at it, how much do you think they’d give to have the stadium renamed after them? Or their face as the logo in the center of the field?

Reality is FSU who has lost 8-9 straight ACC games beat almighty SEC giant Bama. South FL, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio st, Memphis have beaten SEC teams this year, Ole Miss and Miss St barely got by Washington st and Arizona st.

Don’t give me the BS it’s easy anywhere but the SEC.
NIL , Portal.
It’s not easy anymore, anywhere.
Just ask James Franklin
If you really believe Indiana’s schedule is just as difficult this year and last year than an SEC school, it’s not worth more discussion. You can cherry pick whatever you want, but it’s disingenuous.

Agreed. I haven’t seen anything lately to make me question the competence (at minimum) or integrity (cynical) of SEC officiating. It’s been the lone bright spot this season

That stat is criminal. Somebody or somebodies should be put in the stockades one Saturday night on Gay Street.
It goes both ways. We create the 2nd most third and very long 3rd downs in the league. But yes, it stinks how poor we are at closing them out. But better than giving up a bunch of 1st and 2nd down first downs, short 3rd downs, etc.

Hard to reconcile honestly. But keep it up and we have a big opportunity gap if we can clean those up.

Why on Earth would Penn State admit that Adidas paid James Franklin's buyout? I bet we never see receipts. That would be tantamount to admitting they have leverage over the PSU AD. And if Adidas didn't, then why did they refuse to deny it? Just doesn't make sense.

Ok. That's your opinion. Not sure if I've seen a much worse season tbh. Mostly the last few games.

Jmho. And I don't like to BS on refs, call it how I see it both ways. Most seasons it balances out, but not always, and I've seen it go both ways. But it's been ugly as hell so far, again jmo. I'm not an expert and see very few views/angles like all fans, but some of the calls have been historically egregious from what I can tell.

If we happen to lose Saturday I’m gonna take a week off from here.

This place is almost unbearable after a win, if we lose I can already see the meltdown coming.

I wish I could somehow find all the posts from 2017 and 2020 where countless posters on here said, if we could only get back to 8 or 9 wins a season I will never bitch again!

How many wide open TD passes have other 5* sophomore WR dropped?

I know many of us don’t care much for Josh Pate but he went off on SEC officiating on his show today. I’m glad some of these guys working in the media are finally speaking out on this.
I disagree entirely. Pate is reading a script he was told to write by the people who sign his paychecks. The reason he's acknowledging it is because it's too obvious to just pretend to ignore. Few are watching these games and not seeing multiple calls that make no sense. Phantom false starts, convenient calls for holding and non-calls too. Someone has to say, "Yeah, we see it's happening." I mean, the announcers usually do this during the broadcast. But this has ALWAYS happened and it's never ever led to any change. It continues unabated and it will. At this point, I've adjusted my expectations to expect calls like that. And while I don't agree with them, I try not to even react to them. I chose to watch that game knowing what the deal was. It's on me.
