Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I'm a bit surprised we got folks that can't just google "adidas james franklin" and see all the different media outlets running this...

Neither I or Ace just made this up, it's very much the narrative that's out there as to it happening now and not at the end of the season or later. I don't even think Adidas has an issue with Franklin or cares, but as part of the deal to land the brand contract with the school I'm sure they had no issue.

To Adidas they've landed a major university to a 10 year 300m deal...the only contractual difference is that the "cash" amount came with no restrictions. The university is still choosing to fire Franklin and use that cash value to pay the majority of his buyout, but it's coming from the new Adidas deal.
I have coaching friends at Adidas schools who knew of this before the public announcement

Saturdays game plan:

1) Score often with offense.
2) Since we can’t stop anyone on defense we need about 4 strip sacks which will result in approximately 1 TD.
3) Once we’re up by that 1 TD we’ll turtle and run the clock for a couple quarters.
What is scary, besides the fact that you will be exactly correct, is that most of us armchair keyboard guys have already figured this out --- so can you imagine AL and others already game planning for us?

maybe Heup should read this ... because he's not been calling the same offense he was several years ago... heck, he's not even calling the same offense he did against Ga... just trying to get enough points to get a lead and burn the clock... gonna get beat eventually with this mentality... almost bit him in the ass this weekend...
We have the best offense in the SEC and if Mike doesn’t give up on a route and Star runs the correct gap, we likely score 41-48 points. We put over forty on every other team played.

Considering what coach inherited, this is more than any of us deserved to ask for!
This man has pulled off a small miracle considering where we were and the sanctions we were facing. The football program was on deaths door (almost SMU like), not only did he revive it, he will have us competing for championships year in and year out. He walked into a sh*t show, has been thrown curveballs (Nico), yet still finds ways to win. Recruiting is getting better and better each year as well. Wouldn't trade him for anyone at this point.

Not the way we should look at it. It’s about what does the other team do well and how is the QB against certain defenses. Ty has been carving up zone defense and hasn’t tried many deep balls. Logically, you play more man and bring your safeties up closer to the line of scrimmage to help stop the run and limit intermediate throws.
Teams are playing zone to limit tide big play wrs. Most teams keep their safeties back (again to limit big plays). Still don’t think you want Redmond or McMurray matched up. Saturday will be the best wrs the Vols have faced. If McCoy and Gibson were available I could see playing m2m.

Matthews is good for a blown TD per game, it seems. I think Heupel teams are just destined to be sloppy and make a bunch of mistakes, even when we're good.

Brazzell also had a dropped TD... wasn't a clean catch, but he's made some harder ones.

I'm not sure if we still scored a TD that drive or not though. Hell we had 2 drives taken from us for BS false start calls that were clearly DL jumps causing movement...either of those could have lead to points.

Adidas is paying Penn State to take over the contract....and source after source has reported they offered paying the majority of Franklin's buyout to ensure they would land the contract over Nike.

We're not agreeing to disagree here...you're outright refusing to acknowledge the reported truth.

Now...I'm not so naive as to just believe it at face value, but also Penn State has an existing deal with Nike, Adidas is trying to get the new contract....so where there is smoke there is fire. It's not that Adidas said "fire him or else" but I do believe they agreed "if we are awarded this contract a portion of it can be used to pay the buyout for Franklin if you decide to fire him now"
"The report is patently false. This decision was made solely by Penn State. Adidas is not helping to pay the buyout for Coach Franklin."
Statement released directly by the university.

"Adidas directed questions back to the University." -Source Sportingnews.com

You're the one refusing to acknowledge the reported truth, so you should have just been satisfied with the agree to disagree.

I have no problem acknowledging that Adidas had an opinion on the matter, but it is completely insane to think they pulled the trigger and are paying that.

There are tons of big money boosters and old guard at each university that are far too prideful to let a company push their weight around with them.
Adidas is not going to pay a full buyout for a college coach... as was reported.

Enjoy the rest of your day.
