Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I'm curious if Franklin takes time off or if he actually listens to all the calls he's going to get.

No shame in not winning a Natty...most of the coaches in college haven't done it. He will have no trouble finding another gig, just wonder if he takes it this off-season or waits just to milk his buyout for awhile.

I think he will jump at a P4 job offer if he gets a good one. And with so many vacancies expected this season, it's practically a guarantee.

A few already out there with interim coaches in place...

OK State
Arkansas (pretty sure this one is Bobby's though, short of him being unable to win more than a game or 2)
UCLA
Oregon State

and more to come I'm sure

Ohio State lost 8 starters off defense from last season and the DC.

Ohio State is one of the top defensive teams in America this season with all the changes. It's not all about coaching, it's about the Jimmies and the Joes also..
They also replaced him with a 2 time super bowl winning DC.

We’re actually good at forcing third and longs, but the worst in the SEC at stopping them.

We are AWFUL at covering the middle of the field, and it goes back to linebacker and safety talent.

I'd let Perlotte start over Telander. He'll take some lumps but his speed and athleticism will make up for plays that Telander can't make.

I’ve been a huge VOL for a long time and amazes me how few people on here realize we lost to a Georgia State or Georgia Southern whatever that team was like three years ago be glad we’re relevant again
So tired of this narrative. I’m 59 so I’ve been a volunteer fan since Majors.

Indiana went from 40 years of crap to relevant in 1 year, Georgia Tech, and the list goes on
NIL , Transfer Portal and a damn Good Coach. = pretender to contender real Quick.

Being crap 5-6 years ago ( not 3) is irrelevant in today’s CFB world.

Yeah, big fan of Telander...but I agree.

Carter & Perlotte as the two starters, play Telander for Carter when he needs a break and then Spillman (in 2nd half) beside him if both Perlotte/Carter are off field same time.

I'd honestly be fine with us going 1 LB on these 3rd and longs...let Boo or another Safety play beside Carter/Telander and see what happens.

Just did a film breakdown of Bama vs Vandy and Bama vs Georgia. Here is what I noticed. They is no full game on Missouri yet, so I didn't watch.

- Poster said Sunday that Bama doesn't run the ball well. That's true in terms of big plays. They are more of a ball control run offense that lacks explosiveness. They primarily use the run to set up play action and keep defenses honest.
- Simpson is a zone defense buster. He feasts off of zone defense. More on this next.
- Simpson only threw 3 total deep balls in both games. One was under throw but caught by Williams against Vandy (right). One was a perfect deep throw against Georgia and Williams dropped (middle). Last was a deep throw right and overthrown to Bernard. Most of Simpsons deep throws tend to be high.
- Against Vandy, the only contested throw over 10 yards was the deep ball to Williams. All other pass plays over 10 yards were wide open due to holes in the zone. Only seven throws were more than 10 yards in the air.
- Against Vandy 5 passing plays that went over 10 yards were simple dump offs or screens and all yardage after catch.
Against Georgia he only completed 6 passes that traveled in air over 10 yards. 5 of them were over the middle and many set up by scrambles.
- Against Georgia, 7 pass plays that went over 10 yards were dump off or shorts screens that led to yardage after catch.

Ty Simpson is a typical take what the defense gives you. He almost never throws where he is first looking except for screens. He typically moves LB's and Safeties out of the middle with his eyes and then attacks the middle. He leads drives late in the first half with ease against prevent defenses. He kills zones. He scrambles enough and typically on 3rd and long. He is best on balls in air over 10 yards when he is outside of the pocket. My advice to CTB:

-Don't bite on play action. Just hit the QB.
-Don't be tricked by his eyes. That is how the middle opens up.
-Do not blitz LB's. He lives in the middle. Bring corner blitzes like Miami does.
-He typically only throws outside if defense is in zone.
-We need to wrap up and not go for the big hit. That's how they killed Georgia.
-Jam the WR's all day
-DT's better get their hands up and stay in the middle. Vacating middle is a trap.
-He throws 1-2 picks a game, better catch them. Georgia let him off the hook twice.
-Their kicker sucks, so look for them to go on 4th down often. That means do NOT play soft zone on 3rd and long when they are on our side of the field. They will be looking to get 7-9 yards and go for it on 4th. Do NOT play soft zone on 2nd and long on their side of the field. He looks to get 5-7 yards to set up short 3rd downs. That is what they want.

Also, Vandy has a better defense than Georgia. Georgia had zero pressure on Simpson the entire game. Vandy had 4 sacks, and most were huge losses. If Vandy and Georgia didn't turn the ball over and just took the points (FG's) they both probably win.i
Mizzou got pressure as well. I think Bama is a lot better than they were, and they don't kill themselves with silly mistakes.

Agree with your assessment on ty Simpson. He's playing at a high level and understands what he sees from the defense.

If we don't get pressure and disrupt what they want to do, he could do what Carson Beck did to us.

Defensively I think we can definitely hold our own with Joey, the run game and our WRS.

Big thing for me is consistency and reducing the dumb mistakes. We can definitely win this game. Margin for error, much thinner than against Arkansas or MSU.

Those two teams play in totally different conferences that offer resistance about 2 weeks per season. Just not the same playing in the SEC. It’s easy to become a contender in a weak conference.

There’s a reason they can turn it around so quickly:
