Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Man I almost broke my TV when I saw the reply. McMurray vacants the space where the WR settles into the zone to cover the flats to cover absolutely no one. Even if that was his responsibility, I need him to quickly recognize no one is there and return back to the space he vacanted. Regardless, terrible play call by Banks no doubt.

** Telander is also way out of position on that play as well. If he is where he suppose to be that WR isn't open.

It's not even remotely the same. Compare their resumés. Lane Kiffin is winning at a place that's never historically won at the level he has them winning at. It's not hard to see why he's thought of as a good coach. Every open job in the country wishes they could hire Lane Kiffin.
Yet there are guys at Indiana, Georgia tech , Texas A&M that have been there 2 years and have them on the same level.
He’s overrated and always has been.

GROK: Did Adidas Drive the Firing of Penn State Coach James Franklin?

Yes, multiple reports and insider sources indicate that Adidas played a significant role in the decision to fire Penn State head football coach James Franklin on October 12, 2025, midway through his 12th season. This came after a shocking three-game losing streak (to Oregon, UCLA, and Northwestern), dropping the Nittany Lions to 3-3 despite preseason national title expectations. Franklin, who compiled a 104-45 record at Penn State including a College Football Playoff semifinal appearance last year, was let go despite a massive contract buyout—estimated at $49.7 million to $56 million, the second-largest in college football history.Key Details on Adidas' Involvement
  • Financial Backing for the Buyout: Adidas reportedly committed to covering most or all of Franklin's buyout as part of their new $300 million, 10-year apparel deal with Penn State (set to replace a 30+ year Nike partnership starting in 2026). This financial incentive reportedly made the firing feasible, removing a major barrier for university leadership.
  • Timing and Pressure: Sources claim Adidas pushed for a coaching change before the recent losses, viewing Franklin as an obstacle to the program's future under their branding. The deal includes enhanced Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) resources, which Adidas tied to a "fresh start" for the team.
  • Broader Controversy: The switch to Adidas has sparked outrage among some Penn State board of trustees members, who allege they weren't shown full contract details from either Adidas or Nike during negotiations. The university has denied any misconduct.
Official University Response
Penn State's athletic director Pat Kraft praised Franklin's legacy in a statement, calling him a builder of a "national power," but emphasized the need for new leadership. Assistant coach Terry Smith was named interim head coach for the rest of the season. The school vigorously denied irregularities in the Adidas deal process via a statement from trustees.

Public and Media Reaction on X (formerly Twitter)
The rumor spread rapidly on X today, with sports insiders amplifying it:
  • A Penn State source told reporter Mike J. Asti (@MikeAsti11) that "Adidas drove the James Franklin firing and [is] why it happened today." @MikeAsti11 This post garnered over 5,000 likes and 400 reposts within hours.
  • Users speculated on legal angles, with one noting excitement for Franklin's lawyers if Adidas overstepped: "If there is anything to rumors of Adidas forcing the Franklin firing... I think I’d be pretty excited if I was James Franklin’s lawyer." @SportsHutch
  • Others highlighted the buyout funding: "Before you bring up the James Franklin firing, apparently Adidas is bankrolling most of the buyout."

Don’t believe this for a minute lol.

Shew that AUB game was something.

But Bama, UGA fans also complain incessantly about refs. And the refs are so bad in other games many times don’t even matter. Like a random UK - USCe game.
I always thought corruption talk was nonsense but my opinion has changed the last few years. My eyes just say there is something going on in today’s football. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence it’s gotten worse since we started embracing betting. I understand fans always think their team got screwed but I see it in games I could care less about and it always favors the team with a chance to make the playoffs. Money causes people to do some crazy stuff. I think last night was blatant corruption and is statistically impossible to explain away as incompetence. Anyway, I hope I’m wrong but it just seems different and harder to explain away. Thanks for the response.

They dropped out of this into a zone and had everything covered well…..until Telander zigged when he should have zagged. Seriously, if Telander goes the other way then the TD likely doesn’t happen.
The QB is really athletic too. He had nowhere to go with the ball and had to break outside to have any room to run.

Bingo. Sports betting is putting more of a spotlight on officiating that decides outcomes of games. But they chose this. They wanted sports betting legalized. Now they are having to burn money running commercials begging fans not to attack players online when they lose bets.

When all of this comes crashing down it will be the same thing that brings it down that brings down empires invariably: hubris.

Why not bring the blitz and press man on the outside tho. We were scrambling and gave him time to extend far too long to find a guy just sitting in the middle.

Our guys never seem to believe the point of zone is still to prevent the other team from catching the ball. They think the point is to tackle them after 7 yard gains every time. Nobody ever sticks to their man when he runs into their zone, they just stay rooted to their spot till he catches it.
Yes and it was driving me nuts. Now I’m just nuts since they did it the whole game.
