They did give him the money though and he did get players. I was listening to their Locked In Podcast a few days ago and the host pointed out numerous times that Franklin was given the money he asked for last season to keep their best players and get the players he wanted from the portal, and that he got the players he wanted. Franklin has said many times this season and in the offseason that this was the best roster he’s ever had at Penn St.

If he said that, he set himself up. I don't really blame him. Way easier not to coach and recruit 24/7 365 including your own roster.

I've seen Penn State play this year, and I've seen James Franklin-coached Penn State teams in the past. This roster is not comparable to many of those rosters.

It's expensive to retain players. It sounds to me he had to keep going back to the boosters begging for more money to keep the players he already had. He lost some good pieces last year too and did not adequately replace them with like talent. They had the 41st ranked portal class. That might be good enough if you consistently recruit in the top 10, but Penn State doesn't.

Also those Locked On podasts are always 100% aligned with whatever the University narrative is so they aren't always the best sources of information on stuff like this...or much of anything actually.

Why is Ole Miss at 5 then? Their performance against Arky wasn’t dominating. Then they barely squeaked by Wazzou yesterday.

I do find it weird that the media loves Ole Miss and they have struggled as much as we have. Is it because they are the portal queens and that’s the new flavor of the month.

Franklin should be Arkansas first call. That would be a homerun for them

So the Basilio post-game crew brought up an interesting point. Would you be for firing Banks if it cost you Rodney Garner? In other words, the new guy doesn't retain him or he chooses to retire. I'm on the fence myself.

Love me some RG. But RG is 60 years old. I would not make any long term decisions on the defense that are centered around retaining him. I don't think he'll be doing this much longer.

No one is really gonna be able to hire an establish P4 coach away anymore. Everybody is paying.

So either a HC from the remaining group or a coordinator. They’ll prob do something stupid and hire an NFL guy who has no idea what he’s doing in college.
