Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I’ll hold my true thoughts on banks so I don’t get attacked. I don’t like excuses and I feel like we like to try to use excuses too much. Offense lost way more and went and got better with scheme changes and new players.
If things don’t improve dramatically with most of the guys back, then I’m at the point that I’m ready to see a change with the DC. Tired of the bend then break defense.

I was there, too, as a 17 year old. I remember it being cold along with all the empty liquor bottles clanking to the ground. That stadium has a metal incline under the seats from top to bottom, and all you have to do is drop your empty bottles, and they funnel all the way down.
We probably sat near each other. I remember the metal under the bleachers.

One poor TN fan behind us lost his half-empty bottle. It slid to a few rows in front of us. Another dude was able to get it and was rewarded with a swig before retuning it to its rightful owner.

In what world are we a statistically great defense again?

I know many have argued that the stats don't tell the whole story... Fine. Seems like a cope to me but that's fine.

But we are statistically great? What statistics? We're last in scoring defense and 14th in total defense in the SEC.
By trade, I am a stats guy. The traditionally relied on stats have not kept up with the time. Yards gained or given is a meaningless stat in today's game yet it is the standard by which the quality of both offense and defenses are judged. It is the same in baseball with batting average. A better indicator of the quality of a defense would be turnovers, tackles for loss, and red zone efficiency.
All stats can be misleading. As a stat dude the only one I find really infallible is wins and losses.

Probably feeling better and sleeping better too. Keep up the grind!! It’s worth it even when there’s days it’s miserable at best
Thanks! I’m just joking with this, but your alcohol posts don’t help. I quit for 3.5 months when I lost the weight. I’ve maintained the last few months, but the summer and football season can be hard.

man our transfer class was pretty much ignored by the national media on signing day but looking at them now its basically all massive hits and a few unknowns:

The hits:

Colton Hood-- probable 1st round draft pick
Joey Aguilar-- likely ends season top 1-2 qb in SEC
Sam Pendleton-- has been reliably good in a great unit
Star Thomas-- has been great in our stable
Wendell Moe Jr-- likely day 2-3 pick

The unknowns:

Josh Schell-- undersized DT still has 1.5 seasons to go. Likely depth piece in '26. still holding out hope garner gets a hold of him once his body catches up to the SEC, can't teach his athleticism
Amari Jefferson-- injury plagued at Bama (and rumor slightly reinjured this pre season), still has 3.5 seasons to get healthy and contribute at the slot where competition is thin

Haha good for you on that as well! Super hard thing to do

Summer is actually fairly easy for me on booze but fall and winter, I like to get after it lol. You ever try Athletic beers? They’re my go to in the summer

Yards are meaningless, but possessions aren't. We need our defense to get off the field and give the ball back to our explosive offense. Instead, Bank's scheme focuses on playing the odds that if you make the opposing team string together a long drive, you have a better chance of preventing a score. The flaw is that if they possess the ball, even if they don't score, they are still preventing you from having the chance to score.

I just don't think his defense aligns with Hype's offensive strategy very well. It's great for the B1G preTENd offenses, but not what Hype is trying to do.

It would be like pairing Bruce's offense with Deacon's defense. You wind up minimizing not maximizing your comparative possessions because you shoot fast but then play defense to run out the shot clock.

It's all bass-akward to me.

1st in sacks
2nd in defensive touchdowns
9th in tackles for loss
17th in fumbles recovered
39th in run defense
46th in 3rd down defense

And that's without 4 starters at positions that are vital to defensive performance

We've also played 48 freshmen and redshirt freshmen this season.

He's probably not bigger than he was a couple months ago. He just looks more "in-shape", you can tell he's been doing something. Probably trimmed off some fat and looks more defined
There are all kinds of legal fat shredding supplements at GNC. There was one I tried back in the day, Agent Orange or some ****. Dude at gym swore by it. Never did anything more for me than walking 5-10 minutes and stretching did. Or drinking coffee beforehand

Tried creatine also. Just wasted money.

Grilled chicken, and red meat. And whey protein:

There may be something newer like a Possum excrement gland, or Temu can recommend something.
