4 Straight Losses to Ark

I honestly didn't even realize this. We've lost 4 straight in this series, not sure how that's even possible.

Not gonna lie, this could definitely be a trap game with Ala up the following weekend. And no, I'm not saying we lose. I don't see a 4 TD blowout either. A desperate Arkansas team and a possible look ahead game for us is never a great recipe. I'm saying we win in the 14-17 pt range.

Well, Petrino vs. our defense may require we score a lot of points to win.

Petrino will prob break out the Wishbone this week and Banks will be befuddled bc no one has had to defend against the Wishbone since the 80's

No one ever knows with this team, because we haven’t seen the majority of them play together. I do think if we play as well as we have been, we win this game. If we play better D it could be a landslide.

Have they been good at stopping the run?

Situation: Arkansas with a new offensive and defensive staff coaching an embarrassed locker room with a bye week to prepare just for Tennessee.

Situation: As for Tennessee... 😒 #5 Penn State vs the UCLA dumpster fire with only one week to prepare by a new staff Tennessee won't be looking past the Pigs. But our ticket to getting a win will be 1) much improved execution and 2) timely in-game adjustments by both the staff and players.

I'd expect Arkansas to try to confuse David Sanders with some exotic pass rush schemes, he now being our least experienced starter.

I still don’t know how we lost the 2015 game. Just an absolute master class in dumb **** by Butch and Jancek. Lost 3 games that year when we were more than an 80% favorite in the fourth quarter.

I was at that game too. Bad memories. I remember Evan Barry housing a kick return and I thought we had em on the ropes for sure.

3 most memorable moments versus Arkansas:

- of course the 1998 “he stumbles and fumbles”

- the 2002 6 or 7 TO marathon where more points were scored in OT than regulation. Big Witten catch to end the game. Somewhere close to 1am. I was at this game. Great atmosphere that night.

- and this gem from 2011…one of Dooley’s squads. I don’t know why, but this play may have been my rock bottom as a Vol, even though there would years more of pain to come. I quit watching this game after this play. Was with a date at a bar and just paid the tab and we left. The girl was probably happy since she didn’t care anything about football. She knew enough though to say something like, “Wow, you guys are really bad.” 🤣

Well, They caught us during the butch and Pruitt era and then last year we just laid an inexplicable egg in the middle of their field. Until last year, we were so bad, that it makes sense we would lose to them.

We seem to be able to play some real stinkers against Arkansas over the years. I remember when we choked away that great season we had going when Johnny majors came back from surgery too early. We lost to Arkansas of all teams and went on a three-game losing streak after Fulmer had us undefeated. We nearly choked away the '98 stumble and fumble game, squeezed by them In the Kelly Washington versus Batman Carol game with the storm delay, and barely scraped by in 6 overtimes on Jason Witten's game winner. Honestly, we were The way better team in those games, but nearly got beaten anyway. But then, there was the 2000 game where we routed them by over 40 points, and the surprising game when they had those two unbelievable running backs and we shut them completely down I believe in 2007, plus the 90(?) Cotton Bowl blowout when Chuck Webb went nuclear on them . So, who knows.

Of the 4 straight, 2011 and 2020 are whatever, to me. Those UT teams sucked and they were on the road in Fayetteville. 2020, I believe Harrison Bailey was playing and Pruitt was dead man walking already. The 2011 team is probably the second worst team that UT has put on the field in my lifetime (2017 was easily the worst, of course). Also, 2011 Arkansas was a really good team. One of the best they’ve ever had and they won a NY6 bowl that year.

2015 and 2024 are the inexcusable ones. 2015, in particular. 2015 was at home (I was unfortunately in attendance) against a mediocre at best Arkansas team that had lost 3 straight games coming in, including to Toledo, and that was a really good UT team. No excuse. Butch choked and it was clearly a harbinger of things to come. 2024 was on the road, but Arkansas was terrible. We let their backup QB who couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn drive all the way to the end zone. Inexcusable loss.
Arkansas actually ended up with the same conference record as Tennessee in 2015 believe it or not. That was always Bielema’s problem though, he had some competitive teams but lost silly games OOC that prevented a potential 10-win season.

Petrino is still one of the best Offensive minds in college football, i am concerned about this game but a Die Hard VOL so VOLs by Fitty!
He needs to make sure he keeps them in 3rd and long and then throws over the middle. And go for it on 4th down every time.

didn't I see some where that CJH is 4-1 after a bye week....
Last year after the bye week... Arkansas rolled us. And we were MUCH better defensively than this current edition. Hopefully, their D continues to be atrocious as well and we can outscore them. Green is a very good QB and now that CBP is pulling the strings, we'd better be prepared. This win or loss will be squarely on how the coaching staff has this team prepared after a bye. We shall see.
