I don't understand why it's so important for you to establish a timeline on this. Of course, I don't think this happened out of nowhere in just 8 months. There's a long erosion. You've seen me around here for years, complaining about it for longer than 8 months. I know a bunch of you guys remember me trying to rally you to oppose Kavanagh because of the PATRIOT Act. The question seems disengenuous.

The Alien and Seditions Act is probably the official start of our trading in civil liberties to feel safe. It's happened many times since. The PATRIOT Act is not the start of it. It seems kinda silly to respond to my post with, "Yeah, that's bad but what about the Alien & Sedtions Act?"

That's about what it sounds like to hear, "Yeah it's bad, but the PATRIOT Act."

What democrats want is health care funding not be cut for Americans. EMTALA was signed into law in 1986 by none other than Ronald Reagan. It requires ERs to treat any person who comes to the ER. It doesn't say anything about citizenship status or ability to pay. By the Republicans cutting heath care funding the treating facility will have to eat the cost. That cost will be passed on to those of us who can pay, driving up insurance premiums. Due to tariffs drug costs are going up. So fellow Americans, it's the Republicans that are shutting down the government.

Is it? Is ICE going to get warrants to forensicate phones? Are they just going to grab phones on the street and break into them? (That's not how these things work. Note below that CBP has to keep a phone for an extended time to retrieve forensic data.)

Looks like Border Patrol has been using this or similar products since 2008, as they apparently have the legal right to search phones when crossing the border without warrants, similar to how they can search your person, luggage, car, cavities...

We were worried about Chinese influence so we bargained for more Israel-first influence.

Can I get a raise of hands from Republicans who are cool with the government forcing the sale of US TikTok, where Israel's reputation was getting destroyed, and then awarding control to a body that will almost definitely modify its algorithms to be more pro-Israel? The state just hand-picked the preferred indoctrinators on the app our youth are most using.

There is so much crazy **** happening all the time with this admin, you flat out can't keep up with it.

And the countries where it does come at least close to working, it's because they have MUCH lower medical costs. The fix for US healthcare is not to just keep reaching deeper into taxpayer pockets to subsidize it. It's to lower medical costs. The tail will follow that dog. Insurance costs will lower.

These cuts have nothing to do with EMTALA. EMTALA mandates that hospitals that accept Medicare must treat everyone regardless of ability to pay and hospital are not reimbursed.
