Texas @ Florida

Well, as asinine as they are, here we are talking about them.

I'm not sure how much of a factor these stupid rankings are with regard to the playoff - does the idea of "quality wins" come into play with where a team was ranked when another team beat them? Or does a win over a "top 5" team like Penn State or Texas lose some of its meaning if they end up ranked from #15-20?

There's one poster here who is berating anyone who puts any stock into these rankings, and the video of the nitwit woman who ranked Florida higher after a loss or something is pretty damning and comical. I would hope that they mean nothing at the end of the day.

To me, it tends to settle itself out, especially now with playoffs. Sure you had garbage like 1997, 2003, 2004, etc. where the results could be questioned.

With respect to Arch, is it him, or is it the O line? I haven't wateched all their games, or a complete Texas game yet, but what I have seen is he seems to run for his life alot. I've not seen he has had a chance to settle in. Verses when he did get playing time last year he looked legit.

Three takeaways so far…

1. Our defense has been solid all year.
2. Dallas Wilson appears to be that dude.
3. Arch Manning appears to not be that dude.

I’m pleasantly surprised at how well we’ve run the ball against those guys.

Still plenty of time for Napier to screw this up.
For you guys, that's pretty well every weeks game plan. Been his MO since he got there, and will be as long as they keep him. He underperforms with UF rosters more than anyone they've had it seems.

FWIW, it looks like waiting for DW to get healthy was a major contribution to an anemic O for 4 games. Kid looked every bit the part against Texas.

Arch definitely made a mistake going to play for Sark.

Would have been cheesy but likely would have developed much better at Ole Miss or Tennessee or even Alabama.

Texas/Sark just seemed like weird combo for Arch.
Yeah. Good point. Sark is OK I think. I don't think he has chosen his staff well. I thought Arch could have chosen better. He pretty much had offers to go wherever he wanted, and that's what he settled on??? He likely had better QB coaches available too at some lesser P4 programs where he would have been taught better thus far. Heck, even Mizzou seems to make pretty good QB's out of no names. Better than he's getting at Texas anyway. He probably has the goods. Texas just don't have the coaching. OTOH, same coaches as last year and Ewer'a di OK for two years. So, it's either Arch, or a pretty bad O line. If it weren't for Arch's legs, he'd be dead right about now.

I think the fanbase would want his ass gone unless they win out tbh lol
That's the thing. Billy does this every season he has been there. Gets himself on the ropes, then finishes the season in good fashion and gets another year to do it all over again...and every time with a talent rich roster.

Kiffin isn’t leaving Ole Miss in its current form. There’s only one job he leaves for and that depends on when Deboar doesn’t live up the “Saban Standard”

In this new era, Florida offers virtually nothing that Ole Miss in its current form can’t to Kiffin. Sure the recruiting ground is better in Florida but Kiffin has lived in the portal the past 2-3 seasons and it’s paid dividends.

Cignetti would such a culture clash in Gainesville. Similar to Brian Kelly at LSU
Difference being Cignetti is a better coach than Kelly. Winning overcomes culture. Miles was an odd duck, but ole Les did quite well at LSU altogether. Anyone that leaves ND to go to LSU (SEC) to win championships is a loser. A 'championship' coach should bring home natty's at ND just as easily as at LSU. Kelly's done neither at either place.

Would be interesting to see what Heupel could do with him but we have GMac and an incoming Brandon as well. Those are two five star QBs. Idk that Arch would want to compete with them.
And we also have Merck still?? Let's not forget he still #2. Or, have we all resided to saying GMac >> Merck already ?? Might be a bit before we have any games we can see those two play again. Or, am I missing something?

I'm sorry but this is laughable. There is nothing to date that Cignetti has done to surpass Brian Kelly as a head coach.

Long as I don't get shot for having my opinion, all is good. lol. But, Kelly has won nothing to prove he is a "good" coach at either school. He's an underperformer. Cignetti may not have the track record as a HC, but he is winning at Indiana in the same conference Indiana was previously a doormat for.

Have you seen Merk play?
Not really. Why I was asking. When he did get playing time in the early games, I was working, or didn't have streaming access to the networks they were televised, and didn't see much. No biggie if he's not gonna fill the bill or win the job. We still have GMac and Brandon coming in. I just assumed there was a reason he was still #2. Especially since he got the cleanup play vs. UAB.

He has played. He had one very pretty throw and that’s about it. Offense has looked much better with GMac on the field when he’s got on the field.

Figure it'd be hard to tell till they get more equal opportunity. Or get into spring and fall camp battle when #1 is actually at stake for both. 2025 garbage time - 175ish yards and two TD for Merck. Roughly 57ish yards and no TD for GMac. I don't see enough in those stats to assume it's any better or worse with one or the other. Coaching eval will solve that.

The only thing I can assume is 100% correct is that there will not be enough room or playing time on the roster the next 4 plus years to accomodate all 3 and keep them happy. And the 2027 recruit may push that envelope again. One of those 2 is leaving this winter for sure. And if it's Merck, I'd rather not find out how good he is from another SEC team playing us. I can think of worse QB situations though. Several got nothing in the hole if #1 goes down. We got them lined up atleast through the 2027 incoming class.

If GMac is truly better than Merck, then he should have been #2 regardless.

Merk has looked really shaky. GMac looked good running the offense. GMac won’t play much this year bc he’s painfully undersized. If Merk is forced to start we’re F’ed though; anyone that has watched them play can tell you that.

Is Arch Manning's stats really that bad? Or is it that folks expected him to walk on water because of his last name?

I do wonder though if he is in the right offense for his skill set.

If he were a freshman I'd give him more slack. But he's been in the system 3 years, his mechanics are awful, and some of the sacks Saturday were on him. Also didn't help that the backup comes in and throws a laser dart that was by far the best pass of the day.

For what he was supposed to be, he is terrible and if he wasn't named Manning he'd probably be benched already.

I would love to see a “What Texas and Florida fans are saying after the game”.
I've got access and time so I thought I'd do this for you.

From the Texas 247 site:

"Man looking back the recorded game, many of the plays on our OL looked at the same level of youth football. Jo joke. See for yourselves. How can lineman be so slow with their footwork and not be able to drive anyone back with their legs. Even their pad level is awful. And this from a premier D-1 program? How in the hell did it get to this?"

"How long do we have to keep pretending that Sark a good play caller when he's the head coach? I know we have big problems with our OL, but there is ZERO creativity in our offense, zero. Even the last two years when we were winning almost every game, our offense was boring and vanilla. When it worked, it looked OK, when it didn't, it looked awful."

These fans don't seem to realize no one can force Sark to give up play-calling. He can just say, "Pay me my buyout."

more:

"There is a reason why Ewers was the starter."

Gators 247:

Someone started a thread with this photo saying it doesn't look like Stricklin is getting ready to fire Billy. I'll post some of the comments. They are funny.

"I literally just got a nauseated feeling. That isn’t good at all"

Someone said it was AI, so someone else posted the source of the photo, a Gator writer's Twitter account.

They love to reply with this meme.

"Yeah he’ll be back. We’re absolutely f*cked"

Sucks that you beat an overrated, but still top 10 Texas at home and can't even celebrate the win because everyone is acting like your sub .500 coach saved his job.

Thank you so much! Very rare do both teams have tremendous reason to be upset over a game. That’s the best thing I’ve read today.

Also, Spurrier may have been the originator of the “Ewers” comment.

Yeah, he said that before the season kicked off. Didn't hear him predicting Lagway's struggles though. Not really impressed by beating overrated Texas at home.

Then Arch would transfer within the SEC, get a good QB coach, get past his sophomore slump, and light Texas up the next season.
Arch's backup looks better than him, but he was developed by the Troy staff. Maybe Nico would look better too having been developed by different staffs.

Arch just isn't a good QB. If his name wasn't Manning, he never would have been a 5 star. The talent just never looked all that great, even in high school against poor competition.
