Tennessee Softball 2025

Barnhart is having a nice fall.
If I were Karen Weekly, I would be tempted to start Meredith Barnhart at shortstop in the spring. This girl knows how to hit the ball. She was the Colorado high school player of the year. I'm a fan of Bell Faw, but Barnhart can run rings around her as far as the batting goes. I was at the games and I was highly impressed with Meredith. This girl's got rythym with the bat.

Solid player. The level of completion so far has been great for live reps for all but not confidence for SEC. Across the roster, everyone should look like All-SEC players. It’s a good problem to have when you have depth and competition.

After 3 games, although against weaker opponents, it does appear we will have some depth. When Bella and Makenzie get back (I think they’ll start) even more so. All of the newcomers have contributed so far, especially Meredith and Sophia. You just hope a good fall translates to a good spring when the competition increases but I feel good about our team. Plus we have 23 in the circle.

I know we have Karlyn but what your thoughts and the other pitchers?
I think one would say very high potential, but yet to be determined. I think the freshman could be really good this season and the returning pitchers you expect to be better than they were last season. We got a player in the portal that pitches and plays the field as well she seems to be excellent at both at least in this early play.
We only need one more pitcher to be really good and the others to be at least able to help us a few innings when we need it.

Sage Mardjetko will likely be ready by February. She is currently mobile and not using assistance.
Erin Newer will likely take a starting role along side Karlyn and Sage but Maddi is going to compete there.
Peyton Hardenburger to be ready in February as well. Highly decorated (#2 pitcher) coming out of high school.
Maddi Rutan will battle for a spot in the rotation. Experienced player who can field and hit.
Kailey Plumlee will be available as well.

Karen has six pitchers, barring injuries, and should be able to provide her pitchers good run support with some power.

Sound like you have no faith in Charli or Kailey

Charli is who she is and has been since she got pulled back in after she entered the portal her FR year. A team/dugout player who can help in scrimmages and be happy with 10-20 innings. You need players like her for culture.

It is surprising Plumlee hasn’t thrown more. Is it because of too many pitchers or holding her innings because of her knee surgery before her SR year. To not rush her. Come spring Id anticipate her to get early innings like Erin had to see what she can do and get more as she goes.

In the end, it’ll be 3-4 with Pickens getting the lions share. Who is #2-4 depends on how Sage responds to getting back and her legs/arm in sync.

Tn high school softball is way better than Kansas. Don’t get caught up in rankings
Very true. For far too long Karen/Ralph got caught up in CA and team brands when they had players in their own region as good or better. Tennessee softball the last 10 years has caught up with the deemed better states for quality of player.

I agree with but I think with new coaches and ideas has changed that way of thinking. I think Peyton and Kailey will complement each other when time comes

A lot of changes happened once Ralph stepped down, from recruiting to internal culture. That is not a knock on how it was ran under Ralph, just Karen taking a different approach to this generation of female athlete.

History has shown one will be gone as it’s hard to keep two in the same class, especially with the portal and more shiny pitchers with better accolades coming in. If you’re a pitcher, you better impress Karen early to keep getting innings.

I am confident in Karlyn, Sage, Erin, and Maddi. If Peyton and Kailey can contribute then that’s one of the deeper staffs around.

We have got to be solid at SS as does every team. I think Bella will start at SS but she better bring both her glove and bat with her because she herself is witnessing balls being swatted out and off the wall, not to mention the 4 girls playing SS are making the routine plays so far. The competition is there. I don’t think Karen will wait too long. But I am really pulling for Bella to have a good season.

Things take care of themself. Best of luck to the young lady.

Charli transferred to NC State.
