Crompton bandwagon alive once more

I can't imagine a UT fan who isn't hoping Crompton will succeed, boos were for actual performance. Also, if he was playing injured all year and was still the number 1 choice then Stephens and Coleman must truly suck.

He reminds me of the lawyer in my cousin vinny...the one that looked cool, calm, like he knew what he was doing. Then, when it was game time he stuttered, fumbled, and was a lost cause. We have heard it before, he practices well, but in a game he has not been able to think on his feet, he freezes and makes passes that would only make CBP proud. So, it looks like we have no choice but to watch the train wreck again.....:cray:

oh no... You’re in for it now. You must not be a Vol fan. I'm not sure if you noticed, but everybody is on the "Give Jon a break/chance" bandwagon. And you my friend must have missed the orange Kool-Aid toast.

I, personally, agree with you 100% but, at least for now, we're in the minority.

I see no real reason to start heaping praise on the guy...I do commend him for not quiting, but there is no need for anyone to pretend he is the second coming . There is no need to run him down anymore either. Whatever will be...will be.

I think you'll find many who want to see it come gametime. I, for one, and obviously Lexy for another, have not forgotten how it was...

Good so far? I'm glad to hear it. Show me. Then I'll even Armor All the dang wheels on the bandwagon.

I'm not on the bandwagon yet either, because I remember last year. However, if he proves to be the best we have and the coaches name him the starter, I will support the decision and wish him well. If that is the case, I hope he has a great year, because at that point he deserves it. If he turns out to suck again, I will continue to support him until the coaches replace him, which I believe they will if he is not performing. There is no Fulmer, so there won't be any favors this year.

Erik Ainge went in the tank under Randy Sanders, but blossomed under Coach Cut.
Crompton will blossom under Lane's tutelage and will have a banner year. I am not just saying that either. Coach Cut has a keen eye for quarterback talent and I know for a fact that he thought Crompton was the man. If you remember the two games Crompton played under Cut wouldn't that bad against LSU and Arkansas. The pro style offense we are implementing this year was what Crompton was recruited for not a Cum/Clawson spread.
Have Faith!!!!:)

Coach Cut didn't recruit Crompton. He recruited Stephens and Coleman. I've actually heard Cut didn't really like Crompton. But that could be rumor.

Didn't say Cut recruited Crompton. He coached Crompton for two years and was expecting great things from him before he left for a Head Coaching Job.

What was he suppose to say? I suck and the coaches shouldn't play me.

Wow, are you really defending that statement? He could have said, "I'm going to work to get better and I hope the coaches feel i'm the guy...." or, "I'm just going to go out there and compete and may the best man win...." But he didn't, he said, "I'm the guy." based on what? The guy who's going to throw a ball to the dude on the workout bike on the sidelines on 4th and 10+?

AT the beginning of 98, Tee Martin couldn't hit a bull in the a** with a football, of course we were comparing him to Peyton. Against South Carolina, he set the record of what 21 completions in a row and went on to lead us to a National Championship. What a difference a little time makes in a quarterback.

1st, he threw up two bombs to an eventual 1st round pick in Robert M (while double covered), and 2nd, he looked horrible at Arkansas. We didn't harp on him too bad because we chalked it up as an aberration and basically explained it as a bad freshman game. And let's not forget, we lost both of those games.

Every one of the guys said the same thing last year when asked if they felt like they should be starting. Stephens said it, and so did Coleman. They didn't say I'm the guy, but they said absolutely. Like I said, what are they suppose to say?

I never recall Tee being as bad a passer as Crompton in a game. Ever.

I don't want a wishy-washy starting QB. I want one that says "Just give me the dang ball!" You're just not getting it

We lost to LSU because the defense couldn't get off the field on 3rd and even 4th down (sound familiar?).

We lost to Arkansas because we couldn't tackle Darren McFadden.

This is actually true. I watched this game again recently, and Crompton did not play that great. Meachem made him look really good by going up and getting one long ball and then coming back and catch the other long ball that was thrown short. He trucked the DB but other than that, he wasn't great in that game. Granted he looked better than last year, but he wasn't great. I still hope he plays better in this system, has a great year and goes out on a good note.

Sept 12 will determine whether JC is thrown a party in Knoxville, or left 1000 death threads on his door step.
