I don't know why this was directed at me.Part of the reason for the NEED for simplicity is because there will be many new receivers on the field....I have said for years UT has lacked playmakers and that has been a large part of the problem.
Now the Vols actually have a few, and to get them on the field things must be simplified.
UT's greatest success over the past 12 years has come with simplified schemes: 1998, young Tee Martin had thrown 17 career passes entering the season. 2004, Vols made a run to the SEC title game with two freshmen quarterbacks and Rick Clausen.
Not saying Crompton will have an all-star season, but he will prove adequate.
Yes, a bad ankle does have a large effect, and so do concussions -- if you have not had one, let me tell you, it sucks.
You can't concentrate, and you get sudden migraines that make it hard just to see straight.
I'll bet Crompton didn't tell the coaching staff about a few of them, but his roommate knew because he saw JC suffer the ill-effects
I didn't say it was an attack. I just wasn't sure why is was directed at me.I didn't "direct'' the post at you to insult you ... I was making it clear I was responding to your comment that you didn't like the thought that the receiver-routes were pre-determined.
Manning's complicated pro-set offense didn't and couldn't beat Florida or win a national title.
That's the best argument to keep it simple: If you can't win with that guy pulling the trigger and all the talent around him, what college QB can win in that system?
Casey Clausen's offense was also pro-set and complicated, and when it works, man, is it every special (Citrus Bowl 2001 vs. Michigan)
But it takes a lot of synchronization, and a lot of reps with the QB working with the same receivers.
Crompton doesn't have that advantage of being a third or fourth-year starter with a veteran group of receivers.
I say keep it simple, and try to out-execute and out-work. Dictate coverages with an effective run game and home run hitter at tailback.
It's getting harder and harder to out-smart folks with the video technology out there (Ever wonder why Bill Belichik owned Peyton for years in the NFL? Turns out his cameras didn't lie)
Not an attack -- just a response.
The offense was most definitely not the problem back then.
Roll that bi.ch and out and let him choose to pass or run. Hell he ran for over 500 yds his senior year of HS. Besides Tebow, he's got to be one the biggest qb's in College football this year.
I'm not apologizing for ripping him last year, b/c he deserved too, injuries or not. Do I understand more why he struggled w/ injuries? yes. But if you are struggling that much, sometimes you have to take the high road and sit out. I do love his toughness, both physically & mentally. All he has to do is just be average to suceed. Like 60% completion percentage and 10 picks or less will be a great season.

1) Not a good idea for someone prone to concussions
2)The few times that ran last year were far from impressive.
