Crompton bandwagon alive once more

Something just hasn't ever clicked with crompton. Maybe the simplified system will help him read defenses better. Lets all hope so. They do need to use more roll out with him. He can run a little, might as well add that wrinkle.

Also remember, the only thing the Vols had to hang their hat on was D. Coaching, or the lack of, was the problem with JC, O line, special teams, water boys, etc... last year.

Funny you derived that from the above reply.....

I don't want a QB that’s cocky when he has no reason to be cocky. He SUCKED and he was outspokenly confident that he's the guy? Based on what? Shut up and PROVE you’re the guy. The kool-Aid must be free refills or something...

i guess you are the type that probley would bitch about being hung with a new rope.:cray:

Excellent blog, Griff! I was critical of Jonathan last season like every Vol was, but I have been a big Crompton supporter since the off-season and am hoping to see him leave Knoxville a winner. The fact that this kid has not given up and keeps fighting everyday for the team that he loves, is incredible IMO. This system fits Crompton to a T, which is the reason Kiff wanted him when he was at SC.

Really???...WOW....:)

Since Saturday, Crompton has looked extremely poised and confident and seems to be slowly taking charge for the starting position based on all the reports from practice.

I am glad he is earning it this year because I think it will make him better and as stated numerous times...this offensive system fits his strengths perfectly.

I see no real reason to start heaping praise on the guy...I do commend him for not quiting, but there is no need for anyone to pretend he is the second coming . There is no need to run him down anymore either. Whatever will be...will be.

That's the thing: he has the respect of his teammates for his toughness and resiliency; I didn't read Brown or Berry heaping praise on his reads or accuracy. Tough is fine. Good is different. I don't know of anybody who ever questioned the first, but I would like to see the second.

That being said, I am hopeful; I am the guy who got blasted for this thread last year:

It is impossible for me to believe that our quarterbacks were possibly as bad as our schemes and coaching made them out to be. But tough isn't enough.

TOO EASY!!!!!
Combination of new OC, no playmakers, No identity on Offense, bad QB play, poor run game, ect.......

Why is ExCPF ALWAYS the blame??? He learned from Dickey and Majors, who learned from Neyland. I guess its Neylands fault???!!!

You put the blame wherever you think it best fits.

We know where it rightfully belongs.

Dickey, Majors, and General Neyland had absolutely nothing to do with the aberration that Phil Fulmer put on the field in 2008.

Nice try.

Go Vols.

I have been hard on this kid and for the sake off our season and his future he does well.

Thanks for the story Griff! I am willing to forgive and forget and give Jon another chance. Last year, I must say, I was begging us NOT to throw a pass when Jon was in.

Clawsen gone, thank God! Lane Train is now here and Jon will roll.

Yeah. I believe quite a few of us will remember you too if Crompton has a good year... of course you'll probably disappear or rename yourself.

Not at all. I have stated many times that I want him to succeed. I want him to do well and lead our team to a National Championship. I'm not like the Fulmerites that wanted him to lose just so he'd get fired. I've said, if JC does well, I’ll be glad for him to prove me wrong. I'll eat crow and like it. Because in the end, all I care about is a Tennessee "W" and he helps us get them, great! With that said, I feel it's HIGHLY unlikely that he will.

:eek:lol: Good Lord, Cotton...that was brutal.

All Crompton really needs to do is raise his completion % about 9 points, hand the ball off without fumbling, and get rid of the ball a little quicker. In other words...perform like an average SEC QB.

I'm not apologizing for ripping him last year, b/c he deserved too, injuries or not. Do I understand more why he struggled w/ injuries? yes. But if you are struggling that much, sometimes you have to take the high road and sit out. I do love his toughness, both physically & mentally. All he has to do is just be average to suceed. Like 60% completion percentage and 10 picks or less will be a great season.

Oh, nevermind. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion... even if it is a supposed grown man that is too hard-headed to rescind verbal abuses heaped on a college kid that played through concussions, ankle injuries, death threats, new schemes, etc, for the college team he is supposedly a fan of.

I mean, I'm not sold on Cromp-Daddy as the definitive answer, but I think we can at least admire his grit, character and obvious love for UT. Maybe we can even cut him some slack now that we've gotten a bit more data from behind the scenes of last season.

I just heard John Brice from Volquest on the Sports Monster. He was actually getting ready to go to the morning practice. He said that there has been a huge improvement with Crompton and Stephens just in the last week. He said they still have a says to go, but they have made huge strides. He did not say which he thought was leading, he just referred to both of them. He did say that Lamaison and Rozier are basically non factors right now. He said Lamaison was basically brought in to fill the space Coleman left, which we all expected. He said he looks for Lamaison to red shirt this year and still have 3 years of eligibility. He didn't knock him, but he just said he has so much to learn that he doesn't see him being a factor this year.

.

Yeah. Good times back then. That thread might need a bump about half way through the season, we'll just have to see how things shape up.

I agree completely, and I hope he does. But the measure of the guy will be in his performance, not in how well he endures the fact that everybody hates him because he sucks.
