That’s about exactly how I think it happened.I highly doubt Kirby was waiting until he was "ready" and then told UGA he could head over. He would have taken that job the instant UGA offered it to him, even if it was several years prior.
I think things just finally came to a head with Richt during/after the 2015 season. They were a play away from playing for the title in 2012, then finished unranked 2 out of the next 3 seasons. In his last year, they were preseason #9 and had a pretty favorable schedule where they only played a couple of good teams, but got blown out by both (also lost to us) and had completely listless wins against Mizzou, Georgia Southern, and Georgia Tech.
