Since we're on the subject and I was thinking about it today, I'll give my two cents. I think he can coach QB's but am a little concerned about scouting them, his best he's had since being here have been a guy he didn't bring in Hendon Hooker and now a transfer originally from APPY state. Those two have looked like the best in the short time he's been here IMO. I believe Our freshman from this year looks good but until he actually gets meaningful playing time I'll say shows promise but unproven. Milton wasn't bad just didn't seem to really fit the system well again IMO I do agree he improved here, and I do understand sometimes we get who we can get, the players get to pick the destination. I'm just saying that there are a few positions that we haven't shown as much in evaluations and development as others on the field and I realize few will probably agree but IMO QB is one of those positions.

We sure seem to have been lucky at the QB position since CJH arrived. With Nico falling flat on another teams roster and, two other QB’s that couldn’t make it where they were but were sent to the league from here, is it the QB talent or the system?

Several media pundits state it’s the system. Regardless, I’m glad we’re winning and competing at a high level!
Look at Hooker at Virginia Tech compared to Tennessee. Look at Milton at Michigan compared to Tennessee. Look at Nico at UCLA compared to Tennessee. Look at Aguilar at App State compared to Tennessee.

I’d say Heupel and his coaching/system have a LOT to do with it.

To look at how Joey A is doing this year. We are winning. Came within a field goal of beating the #5 team in the nation. He has a high interception/TD ratio just as he did at App State. We knew that coming in. But yet, everyone including me thinks he’s doing well.

Is it the system that masks QB deficiencies or, is CJH a QB guru in terms of coaching QB’s to do what they are needed to do?

I think it is part of both - but I will say I wish we could go back in time and have Dobbs at QB with this type of offense.

It's a combination of both. Whatever the intangible is that Joey A has, CJH needs to hone in on that with future recruits. In my amateur opinion, I think that it's the ability to read defenses and make quick definitive decisions.
From watching most all of the games imo a qb who makes quick decisions is what makes it work for a qb. I watched some highlights of Joey and that jumped out at me from the highlights was how quick he passed the ball, and able also to read the defense. It really doesn't matter how strong of an arm the qb has if he is slow in getting rid of the ball. Joey has been sacked very little this year, because he either gets rid of the ball or runs. Nico would have been sacked several times this year if he was still here, because it just takes him too long to make a decision on all passes except wideouts.

To think if we had a QB of his caliber in this system. Then again, I think back to Rick Clausen and how it took half a quarter for the ball to travel on a 10 yard out. I bet even he would excel in this system.

Its everything. Trying to dissect and nitpick it won't work. The offensive line is the first key. Then the quarterback making proper reads and then throws. Receivers are also necessary. They have to be on the same page as the qb. They all have to read the coverage, see it the same way, and run the route the qb expects.

All of this yappin started in 2022 when we're winning and the pundits needed an excuse because they all missed it and didn't predict the success we'd have. So they just started making **** up. And here we are. Still addressing the false narratives... 🍊

Joey is the first Heupel QB @ Tennessee who actually throws the ball away when plays break down. Not even Hooker did that.

he's the least physically gifted QB since Heupel arrived but he does almost everything better than any previous QB. Hooker was a significantly more gifted runner, and had a bit better accuracy, but i think people forget he had the same tendency to throw high over the middle as Joey.
