Wouldn't really call Staes a miss. He blocked well and caught passes thrown to him. Maybe a miss in that he left. Ethan needs to get going though. With Brazzell's emergence, I think it's fair to say no team is better at identifying the right fit through the portal.
Last two years:
The hits:
- Brazzell
- Aguilar
- Kitselman
- Heard
- Moi
- McCoy
- McMurray
- Hood
- Pendleton
- Moe
- Star
Staes may be the only true miss in that time frame. The hand wringing was prevalent over the offseason and for what?
Bottom line -- this staff is really good in the portal.
We have made changes this season that I hadn’t seen before but it is true that neither Nico and Joe were not able to run the offense well.I think we're now seeing that he also greatly adapted the offense last year. Who knows how much he had to work to make it something Nico run. Winning 10 games with him at QB was a miracle.
It was sub par QB play and WR play. Our tackles weren't great either the last couple years either.
As far as Joey, if ya'll watched the dern film you wouldn't be that surprised.
Didn't see him dicing up UGA like that, but I assumed he would be really good.
No question. I wish they would take about 50% more than they do, because they find people that can play.
Yeah where's Joel Klatt right now?
Both teams get away with stuff. They don’t see everything. We just don’t post our penalties that aren’t calledIsn't it amazing how the big dick teams in SEC get away with stuff like that. It is really ridiculous. Ya think we would be flagged for it? Yea we would. During the ga timeout before the supposed false start call on us before the kick Kirby was talking with the sideline referee on their side - wonder what they were discussing? The pass interference on our guy when the ball was clearly out of bounds was terrible too. Ya just have to hit the kick and not have the goons affect the outcome.
then you eat crossing patterns and running the ball in short boxesI think so, but it’s interesting that Brazzell wasn’t “open” on either of his long TDs—especially the second. Y’all had to like the matchup when he was singled up, but I will be interested to see if those throws continue to have success. In both long TDs, the defenders were close enough to make a play but (taking nothing away from Brazzell, who played both perfectly and played through serious PI on the first) both defenders misplayed the ball by jumping or going for the ball too early.
It may be that Brazzell has that Moss or Calvin Johnson about him to win a bunch of those high arc passes, but those long, high throws will invite teams to start playing a centerfield safety.
Again, taking nothing from either JA or Brazzell, I think the incorporation of out-breaking routes and quick passes are the scarier evolutions in the offense in terms of trying to stop it while defending the run.
