I think it’s most likely he was going COM and missed high due to over compensation for elevation.

In my days of good eyesight my choice was a 30-30 lever action with iron sights. Could not hold a scope on target. Waved around too much. but I could neck shoot a deer at 100 with a iron sight 30-30 no problem. Put an old mini walmart paper bag (5x7ish) on a stick about 40-50 yards out and punched it 3 times free hand. Grabbed my buddies scoped rifle and couldn't hit it propped on the back of the truck. THe most accurate caliber rifle is the one your not afraid to pull the trigger on. I'm not a big caliber guy. Knew I'd flinch. .270 or less for me.

When you dehumanize people and make their position so extreme you can justify anything

I believe the intent behind the words is even more important than how the words are received. In fact, the intent should largely dictate how the words are received.

Ominous terror threats have swept across five HBCU campuses, prompting four to be put on lockdown.

Alabama State University shut down all campus operations Thursday morning due to a 'terrorist threat,' the school told WSFA 12 News.

Specific details of the reported threat are not clear at this time.

Meanwhile, ominous threats have been made against Hampton University, Virginia State University, Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Florida's Bethune-Cookman University, officials said.

My caliber is choice is the venerable .30-06 it’s such a flexible round and there are just so many options. I’ve got my dad’s .30-30 also.
