look at the schedule two years prior to Golesh, yes Scott was awful and Golesh is better, that's not the argument. But Scott also was playing SEVEN P4 level programs a year (a much tougher OOC schedule plus schools Cincy, UCF, SMU, Houston who were already on the way to bigger conferences). Golesh has played an average of 2 of these type schools a year, and those aforementioned programs were replaced by North Texas, FAU, Charlotte and UTSA. It's NOT the same. What did you form this opinion from? It could not have been from the way South Florida recruited high school players in the 5 classes they signed prior to Alex Golesh coaching his first game for them in 2023.
This is where South Florida fell in the 247 Sports College Football Composite Recruiting Class Team Rankings from 2019 to 2023 :
2019 : 75th
2020 : 108th
2021 : 65th
2022 : 91st
2023 : 76th
For the most part, South Florida's talent has been on par (or worse) than that of their competition. Also, they beat Syracuse 45-0 in The Boca Raton Bowl at the end of Alex Golesh's first season in 2023.
This is where South Florida has placed, in the 2 full classes that Alex Golesh has signed so far in 2024 and 2025 :
2024 : 50th
2025 : 62nd
Alex Golesh has improved their talent, but he had to. He didn't inherit much at all from Jeff Scott.

You are straining to make a case against Golesh. He has done a very good job at South Florida, considering what he inherited. You made the claim that Jeff Scott's teams would have likely beaten 7 of the top 10 teams that Golesh's teams have beaten, and that is impossible to support, based on the results of Scott's teams from 2020-2022. That was a ridiculous thing to say.look at the schedule two years prior to Golesh, yes Scott was awful and Golesh is better, that's not the argument. But Scott also was playing SEVEN P4 level programs a year (a much tougher OOC schedule plus schools Cincy, UCF, SMU, Houston who were already on the way to bigger conferences). in 3 seasons he has beaten ONE team that has finished with a winning record (7-6 San Jose St), his win vs Syracuse was ok but they were 6-7 and down 15 starters.
Golesh has rebuilt USF and is much better than Scott was...but he is 16-12 and offense is not doing well at all. He's not some huge coaching genius and there are tons of coaches who could've produced similar results there

If Napier is fired, Lagway probably transfers. Lagway came to play for Napier. They still have some dudes on the team. Their schedule is not easy and Napier doesn’t appear to be the answer.
Lagway has had 3 different nagging injuries throughout the off year. He may end up being one of those were they say remember when he came in and Heisman talk but injuries can change a player physically and mentally. I see the same thing with Ryan Williams at Bama he dominated in HS and then he started that way at Bama but got blown up a bunch of times and he has played different since. You can actually get hurt bad in this game enters and never leaves some players head, some move on and some can't.He missed all of spring practice which didn’t help
"Sucks" is a really strong word. He's had a couple of 10 win seasons and was over .500 consistently until NIL is making it to where they can't compete because the university cares way more about football. I'd say our previous 3 coaches sucked. Mark is a solid coach who we never will know what he would've done with a talented, winning program.Let’s see what happens in November. Mark stoops has won there too and he sucks as a coach

I'm not sure why your expectation level for coaches at these smaller/lesser schools is so high. I can't imagine the standard you're holding Heupel to.
Jesus now you think stoops is a solid coach? Ask a UK fan what they think. He’s been there a decade and loaded up on easy scheduLes and still can’t produce a functional QB and his SEC record is one of the worst in the conference. It’s hilarious how you prop up mediocrity and claim it’s some amazing feat"Sucks" is a really strong word. He has no sense of realityStoops is 36-62 in the SEC.
Even his best UK teams lost to some of our worst coaches in Tennessee history.
Why do you think he’s been at Kentucky for 10+ years? Nobody wanted to hire him.
Texas A&M fans protested against him when he tried to leave last year and most UK fans want him gone now.

What coaches do you think are having great records at Kentucky?Stoops is 36-62 in the SEC.

You tend to defend mediocre coaches and their average to terrible records with "but it's at xyz program".What coaches do you think are having great records at Kentucky?
I didnt say he was a great or even really good coach.
But to say he "sucks" is ridiculous. That's saved for people like our previous 3 coaches.
Also Heupel is an elite coach who is one of the top ten winningiest coaches in the country who has succeeded at two schools now."Sucks" is a really strong word. He's had a couple of 10 win seasons and was over .500 consistently until NIL is making it to where they can't compete because the university cares way more about football. So he's average? Huh. Imagine that. You tend to defend mediocre coaches and their average to terrible records with "but it's at xyz program".
Stoops is awful and sucks hard. Here are UK football coaches for comparison
Stoops overall winning pct - .479 (.311 conference record)
Claiborne - .472 (.260)
Bryant - .710 (.563)
Collier - .538 (.388)
Curci - .480 (.455)
Brooks - .453 (.291)
Mumme - .435 (.313)
Basically even with a much much easier schedule than his predecessors, he is the same or worse than most all of them.
He wins against Mississippi St and Louisville more often and that's about it
I watched the second half. To me, neither looked particularly good. Either UF offense is not good and/or USF defense was surprisingly good. USF offense was opportunistic more so than it was methodical.I only saw the last USF drive that led to the winning FG. Did Florida look really bad or was USF good?
