Ok, so explain to me what the compromise was, and why it had to be a compromise instead of a unanimous decision?Which didn't happen. The Three Fifths Compromise was a compromise and not suppression. Again, look at state populations in the 1780's, and the largest cities in 1790. There weren't many what we'd call cities, and of the 20 largest, 13 were free and 7 were slave. That's not a huge gap. One region suppressing the other or trying to would have just resulted in ratification being delayed until the suppression ceased.
