Not at all saying he’s elite (I have no idea) but not every elite player ends up at an elite school.

USCe pulls some real talent occasionally. Always seems like they have some dudes. And like it or not Beamer is known as a good recruiter.
Maybe but........

And then Beamer will end up at Penn State.
VT maybe. I can't see Penn State coming after Beamer. It's likely to be the best job available unless LSU fires Kelly, so PSU should have the top choice among available coaches.

Rhule and Cignetti seems like the obvious first 2 calls for them. I believe Rhule would take the job in a heartbeat. Drinkwitz is likely high up there as well.

Drinkwiz needs to wear yellow.

I mostly made the comment tongue in cheek because of all the movement of players and coaches, but I also think PSU is likely to not land their top 1-2 targets. Most schools don't.

Cignetti is the sexy name, but will be 65 years old headed into next season and already makes $8 mil/yr. Not sure he makes a ton of sense and aside from being from Pittsburgh, he doesn't have any natural tie to PSU.

Rhule makes a lot more sense, but is going to cost a fortune (currently making $9.25 mil/yr) for a school that is paying Franklin $50 mil to walk away.

Drink makes more sense for a southern school like Florida or Auburn, but he may jump. I'd view him and Beamer on the same tier. Both young guys at lower pressure schools but well-paid.

Penn State has the funds and Rhule's buyout is pretty low.

And they also know Franklin isn't likely to stay on the market very long given his resume, unless he just wants to take a break and enjoy his money for a couple of years. If the buyout required a ton of money up front, I could see it being an issue, but I don't think it is structured like that.

I think it is somewhat likely Franklin lands a new HC gig before December. VT certainly seems like a place that would love to have him after the poor run of coaches they have had. FSU might be interested if they fire Norvell. And it seems like Wisconsin is destined to fire Fickell after OSU skull drags them this weekend.

Certainly I would expect Franklin to have a new job by January of 2027.

I can't help but get a lot of the same vibes from this PSU move as when Fulmer was pushed out. If you are going to get rid of a long term successful coach, you'd better have a solid plan in place to move forward. Seeing how Penn State was in OT with Oregon just a couple of weeks ago, I have a hard time believing they are doing anything other than flying by the seat of their pants. James Franklin never could get over the hump with beating the top teams but I'm not sold on guys like Matt Rhule, Kenny Dillingham or Matt Campbell being any better. It'll be interesting to see how Penn State performs over the next few years.

I believe Drink ends up at Florida! I was listening to a podcast and some guy supposedly in the know says Stricklin likes Dorkwitz.

Unfortunately he would probably be good there..

On Franklin I don’t think he takes a job this year. I would draw my $660,000 a month and chill.

No way this happens. Drink gets what he wants right now at Mizzou and he's exceeding expectations. Florida's expectations are somehow higher, with fewer resources. People underestimate how much money is in St. Louis. Mizzou is the only CFB game in town really. They are the flagship. They are probably seeing investment from individuals who aren't even alumni. Also, the fans seem opposed to the idea of Drink. Whenever anyone mentions him they are drowned out by detractors.
