What other message boards are saying (Syracuse Edition)

No, I am the Deputy Commandant at West Point right now. Only been here a year. I was a Brigade Commander down in Texas and then the Chief of Staff for III Corps right before I decided to come up here. This is my last assignment in the Army. It’s been fun.
West Point has a beautiful campus. I trained the cad(iots)ets there in 2018.

I’m calling BS on this as there’s no way a person in that job at West Point has the time in the middle of the day to post on another school’s sports forum. And if you are who you say you are, then get the hell off this forum and do your job - those young soldiers deserve better!
OFFS

1. They aren't soldiers yet

I'll stop there

Really? In today's distracted world? Besides, it was 10am when He posted that. Top Brass; Lunch? I agree with the sentiment, but it just isn't realistic anymore. That said, how many Vol Fans take time out of their working day to check in on VN? All of them. Revised after reading Palmeto State's post. He is right..

I see this being a 28-17 type game. Control the ball with run game, take what the defense gives in the passing game, play solid defense. If we can't run the ball against then it's going to be an extremely long year. But I think we probably have 170+ rushing yards on them.
VT had 313 yards rushing on cuse last year, and they were better then.... 313! Tennessee gets 200+

Or, you're talking to COL Chad Foster from Chattanooga, TN, Deputy Commandant of Operations, West Point- who gives zero F's about what your opinion is on this site.

And by the way, command staff does in fact get a few minutes of personal time during the day. These people aren't' robots, they're living, breathing, individuals....some who just happen to be passionate about Tennessee Volunteer football. They do in fact get to take lunch breaks, go to the bathroom, etc. To take a line from you....if you don't understand that...then get the hell of this forum and maybe take a minute to analyze the thoughts running through your head before you continue to embarrass yourself by typing them out.

Yeah I call BS on that dude’s story about hearing non stop “Yankee” on his recruiting visit. I live in the South and have spent my entire life in the South and can count on one hand the amount of times I referred to people from northeast as “Yankees”.
I suspect he was calling people rednecks and hicks and they gave it back to him, probably figuring he was just trying to make sarcastic banter.

He is who he says he is, or else he's impersonating a Colonel in the United States Army. I'll go with option (a) here.

And if he is who he says he is...given his history of serving his nation both well and honorably...the obvious question would be where you stand in regards to JFK's famous statement.

Not trying to start an argument, but it pays to do a bit of research before you start lobbing snowballs. Five minutes on the West Point website and a room-temperature IQ would have given you your answer.

As for why he's on a VN website in the middle of the day, my guess would be he was on his personal phone, and personal time. Even the Army allows its' soldiers and officers room to maneuver during the work day. Within reason, of course.

Since his chosen career is a 24/7 occupation, and involves the occasional trips to foreign soil where most of the local inhabitants are trying to kill you...I'm inclined to give him a pass if he decides to whip out his phone and spend 15 minutes enjoying the very freedoms he has spent years protecting for the rest of us.

Again, not trying to start a fuss, but Good Lord...this is beneath you. I would hope.

Dude, I got yer back on this. You are getting some push-back about it, but I already had this guy on ignore for a reason. I couldn't remember why, so I tried to go back and see his history of posts ... all hidden. 🤔

Seems like a lot of work to make up a story about serving and working at West Point, seems legit to me. And I thank him for his service….My only issue was when he said he sees trash in NY everyday, Syracuse is a **** hole no way around it, suburbs of Syracuse are fantastic, BUT Hudson Valley West Bank area is one of my favorite spots to visit in the state, never seen anything garbage at all. More importantly Can this game start already?! Always the longest damn week of the year. Side note got dragged to NYS fair today by wife and kids hate every second of it, but it was their Syracuse day, never seen anything garbage fan base that lost sooo much think they have such a great chance.

There’s always hall monitors on this forum jumping at any chance to straighten out someone posting something to which they disagree. I didn’t even pay attention to the content of the post, only to the insanity that the head dude over West Point would be posting on this forum. I had a son graduate from one of the other academies and know the demands placed upon the students. I also know these military students deserve equal effort from the academy staff. I stand completely by my statement and it’s a terrible look if the guy is who he claims to be. If he’s taking a short mental health break, he ought to have enough common sense to not tell anyone on here who he is and his job. His lack of discernment is shocking to me. JMO and any of the rest of you jokers who think I’m out of line likely have no experience in the matter

The ACC has the potential to be put out of business next weekend (obviously embellishing here). If LSU wins at Clemson, Bama at FSU, Tennessee vs Cuse, South Carolina vs VPI, Notre Dame at Miami, TCU vs UNC, those are all potential and likely L’s, it’s going to be very, very bad for the league . This coming from a guy who is from the heart of ACC country and grew up here. I hate to see the league be in a bad spot, but they keep running their mouth. Rhett Lashley talking about the depth of the league? GTFO
Haven't heard anyone call Virginia Tech "VPI" since my grandmother passed away. She always put a "The" in front of it. "The VPI"

If you want to live in a world where high ranking US military officers have no time for personal business and spend 100% of their entire day only attending to official business, then you would have the four branches+ Coast Guard office corps emptied within a few years.
I will never work with or for someone with your philosophy.
I served 14 years, USAF. Officers and NCO's took breaks under my command, and I never had a superior forbid us from planned relaxation time during the day, unless on patrol or engaged with hostiles.
Unless in a combat zone, US military operates much like a business and workplace.

If you don't like it, fine. I am here to tell you it is no badge of honor to take your position and then double down. Young men and women who want to become officers, cadets, or soldiers should not be led to believe they must be biological robots and have no breaks during duty shifts. That is not the expectation. You don't treat people like that. If you do, you have no respect for their needs and you are just wrong.

Now if a professed Colonel was harassing people or posting about unethical behavior, that is a different scenario. That is not what is going on here.

Yah, as a retired Army dude, I'm with you. I mean, the Air Force are a buncha civilians wearing uniforms anyway (heh, just teasing you), but still you're absolutely right: soldiers, and sailors, and airmen, and coast guardsmen, and even marines are people, too. Ain't nothing wrong with Chad taking a few minutes' break mid-morning to check VN.com and contribute a line or three.

On the other hand, @Chad F , you are a fairly high-ranking officer in a fairly high-visibility job, so be measured in your critiques. Some of the cadets the Commandant and his staff (i.e., you) lead are from Syracuse. Quite a few of them are from New York state. Heh.

Just be cautious. Or some of those visitor socials could get a bit awkward.

Go Vols!

It's ok to be wrong

On the other hand, @Chad F , you are a fairly high-ranking officer in a fairly high-visibility job, so be careful who all in upstate New York might get wind of things you say, things like "the garbage I see in New York every day," and, "there's nothing in Syracuse that interests me." Some of the cadets the Commandant and his staff (i.e., you) lead are from Syracuse. Quite a few of them are from New York state. Heh.

He's not wrong.

NYC is f'n disgusting and 'Cuse is boring. Granted I went to 'Cuse quite a bit because Watertown is a complete barren wasteland.

Granted there are fine parts of NY. I love where I grew up (Saratoga Springs/Clifton Park/Ballston Spa). The Adirondacks are awesome.

Yeah, the family of a college buddy of mine owned a cabin on Long Lake in upstate New York. Only way to get to the cabin was a 10-mile hike or a 20-minute boat ride. Or in the winter we could cross-country ski up the frozen lake. Anyway, beautiful place, even if it's way too cold for my taste in winter. Any place your snot freezes INSIDE your nose, that's too cold lol.

Other than the temperatures, though, just as green and pretty as a Tennessean could ask for upstate. And I didn't even mind Syracuse. Of course, I was dating a girl from there, heh.

Anyway, the man can be right and still need a little discretion given who he helps lead and what civilian communities surround him on a daily basis. Yanno?

Go Vols!
