Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I'm not sure. that article was from 2023.

Ive heard Chris Winfrey talk. He's a giant sports nut, college sports nut. Adam Ray attended college in Maryville.

Charter aint losin' ESPN.

7 years ago. I was told the goal was to go Direct And “kill off” the cable companies. You are seeing that now with the espn bundle and soon to be fox with them.

Charter may chose to keep ESPN but for that they pay so much for ESPN that they have to have more of their customers demanding ESPN then those not willing to pay them $40 bucks for it plus another $80 for all their other NON SPORTS that those people actually want. Believe it or not there is a huge percentage of Charter customers that don’t want ESPN. Sports and ESPN are not alacart options like HBO because the terms and conditions to get ESPN won’t let Charter sell them separately. This way Disney can extract 30/40 bucks for the Disney properties from everyone on charter not just the folks that watch espn.

This is all part of their plan. It is why you are seeing more and more games go to “pay“ channels and not free over the air broadcast.

You can believe me or not but I spent many many years flying all over America and Europe selling to Disney broadcast and streaming divisions. I was selling to them when they bought Bamtech from MLB to turn into their streaming platform to fix the crappy ESPN app and when they bought the fox studios and when they bought the second third of HULU(they just bought the final third). ESPN app never got fixed 100% because of the original team that wrote the ESPN APP. New app supposedly coming Aug 21/22.

This has been Iger‘s dream all along to sell direct to consumer and take that extra margin from cable companies.

We were talking about broadcast television earlier and I only quickly glanced at your chart and the post with no real awareness of the context of the discussion. I assumed this was about the Fox network and it took me a few seconds to figure out what interest your Warden friend had in people’s over-the-air TV practices.
Lol I did the exact same thing.

I hear you brother

I do think we are in for a treat this year on offense and my eternally optimistic ass thinks it’ll spike our recruiting for the end of ‘26 and ‘27 classes

This conference lives in dies on the line of scrimmage and we may have the best collectively between OL and DL. It will open up a lot of opportunity for coach to draw it up big
Can’t draw it up when you don’t have receivers…

Okay, maybe that wasn't fair, just frustrating to see this and was unexpected.

Let me say this and leave it be - just because you've done something your whole life and its the way you were taught to handle it doesn't make it right and/or doesn't mean there aren't alternative solutions.

I hunt and trap. I trap foxes (I have a red pelt on my wall). I do nuisance trapping, too. I've helped numerous friends solve predator problems with chickens and turkeys. Controlling predators is useful and important. But there's a lot of stuff I don't do anymore because I was taught a better way or learned more info.

Here's what I do, if you're interested... I target specific animals causing a specific problem if its out of season. Certain species I'll typically check with a warden first to be clear. Then in the season when I'm done deer hunting I trap to stay active and target certain predator species that we're trying to manage. But otherwise, I leave them alone. It's also cool to see them on the landscape and I always want to see them.

Some individuals of the population will never be a problem or pest for you. They'll get really good at finding a certain food source and stay out of your way. You want to keep those around and let them educate the next generation to stay away from your stuff. Studies have shown in coyotes you're actually more likely to have issues if you continually remove older members of the population because younger ones move in and get themselves in trouble.

All that to say, there's a balance to it. These predators are cool animals and they're a necessary part of the ecosystem so it's important to keep a couple hanging around doing their thing. Just maybe give more thought to it when you see them and just.... watch and see what they're doing
See thats what I mean, I respect your knowledge. That makes a whole lot of sense and I understand the balance needed to a certain extent. We have alot of predators around here but its an abundance of foxes, we see them on the trail cams more than anything else besides deer, but we never see them during the day. All of our foxes are grey foxes, don't think I've seen a red one in a good while, like at least 3 years. We see a few bobcats and a few coyotes but nothing like all the foxes we have..My FIL had always had problems with them over here. They overrun the farm.
I'll certainly give your last paragraph some thought next time I see one.

I remember when we broke the color TV and had to spend what seemed like eternity watching an old black and white until my parents would get a new color. No cable for me until maybe HS?
Didn’t have a satellite until my sophomore year of college. Before that it was an antenna attached to the roof. I was the remote for the ole 19 incher.

Now I have a 65” built into my cherry oak builtins. My how life changes.

Yeah, that 15 pound fox can do a lot of damage, you should be proud. 🖕
You've watched too many Diz movies. They are the scourge of people that raise chickens and rabbits...pretty sure that's why 821 took him out.

On the other hand..if he just randomly shot a fox that was nowhere near his place abd animals...then yeah that's not cool.

I think you'll see Charter and Comcast merge in next 2/3 years. Comcast owns NBC and Time Warner - Production. They partner with Charter with Xumo, and both produce content for it.

Already in the works...Cox and Charter.

Comcast is next.

Not sure how it will impact the streaming services. But I wager that Bob Iger isnt dumb. Disney World happens to be smack dab in Spectrum country. Guess hwat, so is Anaheim.

Cox Spectrum is located in CT. As is ESPN.

Money talks. ******** walks.

Guarantee Charter-Cox-Spectrum and Disney will keep things profitable and will be in cahoots together for years.

Heard today that MTSU will wear only one helmet and one home and road uniform this year …..no alternates.

It will save the football program over $600K. That money is going to NIL.

Sad what “small schools” have to do to even try and compete.
James Peaygolf. Never knew your first name.

Lol..I don't think I can at this point, but I do need to be a little less...uhmm...vociferously hateful..sometimes....I've tried to take it down a notch, but then some dumba$$ will post their toxic dumba$$ery and my blood pressure instantly spikes...😡
That’s exactly why you shouldn’t. I’m an old fart like some and I’m wading through youngsters posts daily. That’s why I mostly lurk (life stuff). Our kids on this board didn’t grow up in the Vol times that you and I (though I’m older 🙄) did. I tend to shake my head when I read their posts, because they didn’t see and experience what we had the privilege to in real time. I want that for them, like I do for my son, DIL and grandchildren.

I love when they wake me up at 3am and make me think my neighbor is murdering his wife. . . almost called 911 the first time I heard them, 😂
The juvenile foxes are crazy and look mangey when their coats are coming in. They'll run around your bird feeder in broad daylight. Make those insane noises right near your house. I thought we honestly had a rabid one until I googled it one year.

Real tough choice. And I like our orange out more than most others whatever-outs. But I really like that we were the first team to do a coordinated stadium beyond a single color and it’s hard not to appreciate how well we do the checkerboard. Flip a coin. Probably checker for me.

Agree but realize cable has a floor of dollars of revenue needed per mile of physical cable to stay profitable.

As more people “cut” the cord/cable they have to raise prices to keep that cable and all the equipment to feed it Operational. The only choice is to raise prices and that increases cord cuttters. It is why you see cable companies try to get in other businesses like phone and security to lessen their revenue loses. It really is in a slow doom loop death spiral.

The fight was telling when I believe it was spectrum kept Disney properties off air for 30 days during football season because they are on such thin margins that they could not do the Disney tax increase.

Side note, in just the last year Disney has managed to get their streaming profitable but that was only after they walked away from some pro sports because they could not make numbers work.

Comcast is trying to separate some of their properties so they can get more profitable. You might be right that we might see more of the cable companies go back to be standalone and merge. The rumor had it at one point that Iger was considering selling ABC broadcast because it is a dog but both him and his wife Willow got their start and met at ABC in NY and he has a soft spot for it.
