The Atlanta Braves

I think .500ish and in the Wildcard hunt was sustainable with better health luck. The bullpen and middle infield were going to always be problems though.
Oh I agree.

The problem is that is where we are perpetually mired for the foreseeable future because we don’t sign or re-sign anyone ever that can change the culture or offense and AA is decisively winning his war against having any sort of depth or back up plans.

I will defend AA in this regard. It was impossible to predict Harris’ sudden downfall and Ozzie being cooked. It’s also not his fault that Riley and Olson have plateaued. The other things (LF, SS, bullpen, back end of rotation, letting Snit hang around) are all his fault

Mike was predictable to some degree, his approach has always been bad. Just has. Which will lead to these stretches. A legit batting coach would help here. Ozzie being cooked has been pretty obvious for a while man lol.

Olson very streaky. Always has been. Riley I’ll give you that one. Even I’m a little shocked at how he was rolled over.

What's crazy is that since Dansby has been with the Cubs. He has a wRC+ of 100.6 and Ozzie has a wRC+ of 98.6

Dansby is also an elite, top tier defender. Ozzie is not. Also…

Cubs SS WAR since 2023: 7th

Braves SS WAR since 2023: 26th

Id rather pay $25M for a player in the 8-12 range at SS than than $3M for the 26th best SS

Heavily weighted by the defense

Just because they made terrible decisions post Dansby does not justify $25 million for the same average or below average production at the plate

I agree that Dansby is still elite defensively and one of the best at that part.

But we can't talk about the fall off Ozzie has had offensively and act like Dansby hasn't always been a pretty awful hitter for his entire career.

Dansby makes less than Profar/Joe Jimenez/David Fletcher combined. Next year we pay Profar/Jimenez/Bummer/Fletcher (Fletcher’s $1.5M buyout and Profar’s raise) $35M combined. Yeah that contract is gonna suck in 2028. Id rather have him than those 3 guys I listed above and not have Orlando Arcia and Nick Allen.

Good baseball players are expensive. You can’t win every deal to compete. Our genius GM is too busy trying to win every deal instead of building a good baseball team. We would be a better baseball team with Dansby. And that doesn’t include the locker room stuff.

Dansby is still 22 points better than Ozzie in wRC+ this year and that doesn’t include Dansby has been one of the 10 unluckiest hitters in baseball this year (underperforming his xwOBA by 38 points!!!).

Also since 2020

Dans: 105 wRC+

Ozzie: 102 wRC+

Braves, high on talent, low on wins

Cubs, low on talent, high on wins

I know people hate Rucker but it’s good to have someone who doesn’t pump sunshine back

They’re probably going to be mediocre but they haven’t even fielded all the starters yet.

I know you aren’t a believer, but GMac is the only one consistently getting positive reviews.
