Why is Butch Jones (still) hated so much?

Though Jones was a carnival barker who was a cliche caricature machine, the real egregious act was him quitting on the team like a loser. He proved to be a guy with a weak back. He's the same guy who was taking a beating from Dooley who said he was dreaming of coaching here why taking said loss on the other sideline. It should've been a precursor for cigar gate. It was in his background.

I actually think it was the opposite. He put up this facade where he thought he could distract people w/ the “brick by brick” “63 effort” “whatever adjective individuals” cliches and that would cover up the fact that he is/was an insecure guy who drove a $200k Mercedes around campus. He’s the only coach we’ve had here in recent memory that never played a down of football. If that’s the case, you damn well better be an offensive genius or have a quick wit like a Shanahan or Mike McDaniel. Butch does not possess either one.

Butch studied football, but there were plenty of times he did not seem to know what he was talking about. His bs rap did not work out. It got old and annoying.

I can’t say I hate him because I was dubious from the start. He twice rode the coattails of Brian Kelly rather than establishing his own success. First at C. Michigan then at Cincinnati. I expected nothing and, unfortunately, got less than nothing. His antics proved what/who is was.

The brick by brick commercial was unforgivable. As a brickmason it was just ridiculous. Everything is wrong there in the commercial...including that tiny little kiddie trowel he was using. It would take a week to build a mailbox and look like garbage too using that technique and trowel. I can build a nice mailbox with a fancy cap by lunchtime on a Saturday and I am 48 years old. Makes me angry just to think about it. Combine that with the fact that he never even played football and was a band geek with stupid, weird statements and mannerisms...and it becomes clear that the guy is just a fraud. Just a greasy, uncouth "used car salesman who rolls back odometers" kind of guy. No wonder the players didnt trust him or buy in to his "vision". What a maroon. A Muppet. A squid. Good riddance " Butch". What a sissy name.

Somebody should tell Butch that Arkansas was not a state in the Union. It was a southern state.

Before Butch Jones there were 2 programs in College football that had never had an 8 loss season. After Butch Jones there was one and it wasn't because we gave someone their 8th loss...

Texas alone, who plays in their state capital at Austin, has 8 better in-state rivals.

Texas Tech
Texas A&M
Baylor
Houston
North Texas (arguably better since Texas has actually played them way more than once)
SMU
TCU
Rice

And I forgot UTEP and UTSA and probably others.

Off the top of my head: other state capital teams with HUGE in-state rivals are Georgia Tech, Florida State, Michigan State, NC State, South Carolina, Vandy*. Hell, Utah/Utah St is more interesting than Arkansas/Arkansas St, and Utah/BYU is a legit rivalry.

*Hopefully never a real rivalry again.

Did you mean to use blue font? Arkansas is a state within the union of the 50 states that make up the United States of America. I don’t think Butch was referencing the Union you’re referring to…

I see it like this.
Kiffin - made a bad choice and turned into a good coach and well balanced adult. He wasn't ready for the lights he had on him.
Dooley - was absolutely pathetic to watch unfold
Butch - is not an elite coach and just got embarrassed all around.
Pruitt - a real POS. I am amazed there was no long term damage. Our new coach turned it around.
