President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

Stop parroting stupid.

"AccuWeather warned its customers of the potential for flash flooding hours before torrential floods swept through Texas Hill Country,"
There was a flood watch issued on July 3 at approximately 2:00pm Central time which was in effect through July 5. A flash flood warning and emergency warnings were issued at 2:00am on July 4 telling people to immediately seek higher ground. Unfortunately, the river rose much faster than expected and the camps appeared to not have emergency evacuation plans in place or 24/7 monitoring of severe weather. The systems may have been in place, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. In addition to the children’s camps, there were also campgrounds in the area.

My grandson was at Camp La Junta (all boys camp) and awoke shortly after 2:00am with water already inside the cabin. Families were notified quickly which was a tremendous relief. I think all of the boys from that camp survived but they were obviously very frightened. Online videos showed the speed at which the water rose and demonstrates the limited amount of time individuals had to react. Water was estimated to have risen in excess of 25 feet in a very short period of time.

This camping area had flooded years ago (~1987) and I am curious if the camps had emergency plans in place. The rescue personnel are still working to locate missing people. Prayers for the families of the victims and to those helping in rescue operations.

"The National Weather Service has indicated that with that and the [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] (NOAA), we needed to renew this ancient system that has been left in place with the federal government for many, many years."
Though a flood watch was issued, Noem described it as a "moderate" alert.

The National Weather Service told Noem its notifications department started to look at expansion of its limited flood impact area at 1:18 p.m. local time Thursday, about 12 hours before the tragedy.

"When the [weather] system came over the area, it stalled," she said. "It was much more water, much like [what] we experienced during [Hurricane] Harvey, with the same type of system that was unpredictable in the way that it reacted in the way that it stopped right here and dumped unprecedented amounts of rain that caused a flooding event like this."

Initial reports indicated heavy rain Friday morning caused the Guadalupe River to rise nearly 30 feet in 45 minutes.

Weather service employees told Noem they continued to elevate notifications, though those alerts likely would have come through in the early morning hours when local residents were asleep."

Tragedy.

I’m semi retired and me & the Mrs would like to visit more of the national parks. We’re finding over crowding to be a real problem and much of the crowds are Asian / Indians / Pakistani folks most of which don’t appear to speak English and certainly don’t understand the American concept of personal space. These are American national parks and American tax paying citizens should have priority access IMO. Just look at the Smokeys as it’s becoming near impossible to safely drive from Gatlinburg to Cherokee through Newfound Gap without running over a brown person walking on the roads. Went to the Rocky Mountain NP last week and they’ve instituted a timed entry system that’s near impossible to access only at 7:00 pm the prior evening unless you know exactly what day/time you hope to visit months in advance. Something needs to change or these American treasures will become undesirable to visit.
Ironically, Trump signed an executive order this week to address this concern. No specific dollar amounts are shown in the announcement, but it’s a step in the right direction IMO.

Are we great again yet?

Other than maybe Presidential vacations, there’s nothing more tired than trying to score points off a natural disaster.

9 months ago when another flood happened, you nailed it…..

Disaster response isn't the same as flying an airplane. You're going to have different scenarios every time. There is no way to prepare for something that has never happened.

They're doing wonders around Black Mountain but in a bad way, and the Commonwealth's fine with it. If they're good with that they're good with very low environmental standards.

I think they are doing great, the runnoff from that site is almost pristine.

It appears the immigration system was quickly reformed after inauguration. All the current issues are towards rounding up the illegals that arrive under Biden.

There is a belief, due to the Biden Administration, that 100's if not 1000's of sleeper cells are not operating inside the US.

Start with your own party and the damage inflicted by throwing the border wide open with zero barriers to entry. Had the Biden administration respected our immigration laws on the books instead of pencil whipping complete s*** EOs, we wouldn’t be in this situation. Cause and effect, dude. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Doesn’t mean it’s the always correct reaction in some cases, but the left creates this by destroying the process.

And if that wasn't bad enough, the Biden Administration, democrat party and state run media tried to lie and convince their drones that ICE was beating illegal aliens with whips while on horseback.

Adding a token billion dollars to the immigration court support budget, while literally revoking the legal status of immigrants, making them "illegal" with an executive order, is in no way "pro-legal immigration".

JFC, the things you guys tell yourselves get more insane every day.

I have read several pages and you are taking a beating in this conversation.

That's ok. I will defend you.

Can y'all please leave this guy alone and pick on someone else?

All of the above.

Its funny. I saw a bunch of clips of Mike Johnson, Tim Scott and even Bessent side by side with themselves relying on CBO scoring for one purpose, and then recently saying its all crap. Direct opposite statements. Each one of them. Such frauds.

it was wrong during Hurricane Helene as well when they were fully staffed. It’s obviously hard to predict which is why they are wrong so often.
My real problem here is with the DOGE. If their layoffs had been prudent, then the National Weather Service wouldn't have been re-filling 126 positions described as critical just 2 months later.

Do you have go back to Small Branch Community Bank and complain about being laid off, or do you bestow that particular endeavor on someone else so you don't embarrass yourself?

They (NWS/NOAA) weren't wrong during Helene. They were calling for extensive mountain flooding for days. They could have done a better job communicating the high end risk potential. FEMA, on the other hand, absolutely was caught flat footed in the mountains....

I was affected by that as well but we can’t blame Trump for that. I can’t believe the Biden administration forecasters didn’t foresee towns wiped off the map so far inland. It’s weather and you never really know what it’s going to do but I’m sure we can go back and see how the dims defended the partisan response.
... and I'm sure we can find examples of Donald Trump trying to score political points in the aftermath of a natural disaster. I don't know of many politicians who are above doing that anymore. That's just how it is.

Nice dig. LOL.

Do you need to be informed that First Horizon is a regional bank? It sounds like it.

It was just a joke. Yes, I'm aware of First Horizon's but I'm more of a Regions guy.

I'm curious though....did you move your financial relationships from FN or did you leave them in place?

Of course he was, there’s multiple instances of people being denied assistance based on political beliefs.
