“But I got to stop wishin', got to go fishin' Down to rock bottom again Just a few friends, just a few friends” (pictures)

Went night fishing off the dock in the creek with mud minnows this weekend and mostly didn't do much but sip beers with my buddy. He hooked up twice to what i imagine were decent reds they way they fought but both of them broke off after a short struggle. I caught a medium sized white catfish (no picture, he came off right at the dock, which I'm fine with because i didn't want to play with catfish spines in the dark) and my buddy finally caught one red but it was way smaller than the ones that hit him earlier. Most of this fishing was done in water from 6 inches to only a couple feet deep.

We were gonna go up to titusville and eat and fish, but storm knocked us out. We're gonna God willing go out on the Orlando princess in the morning. My wife wants to try it, and I didn't argue 😆. We've fished a little around the port, caught a bunch of little stuff. Still fun.

No fish story. We drive down to Sebastian inlet, been storming/raining the entire time. I finally went down to my dwim trunks, grabbed my rod and some shrimp, and went to near the bridge. Idk what it was, but probably the biggest fish I've ever hooked. It drew people into the rain watching me fight, I was fishing famous for a moment. It nearly spooled me, then turned and came back. As it was getting close, it broke off, I nearly cried. It was so strong, it felt so good for 5 minutes or so, and poof, it was gone😭

That is a helluva fish story.

What kinda tackle were you using, unless you had something super light it was probably a shark

Ive had some big ones go for shrimp before. Not super common but it happens

(Or it was a state record redfish)

It wasn't nothing setup for like a huge fish, just the little ones I'm used to😆. It was like one of the surf rods you get at Walmart, had 30lb braid on it.

tl;dr
had a few reels respooled and have respooled a few myself (after I dug my line station out from under the layers of grandchillern's toys in the garage hahaha)
I ended up with braid on 4 or 5 is all....I don't think I went higher than 15# on the braid, though
I had asked Percy about braid in the salt, because I remember in the 90s that every pier in NC banned it....because first time someone using braid hooks a ray the size of a car hood and starts fighting it up and down the pier rails, the mono lines got sliced like hot butter....not to mention how hectic it gets around the pin rigs
if that dude who hooked the king on the party boat the other day was using super heavy mono or braid and was bringing that king in too "green," that's exactly why the crew dude wanted to bring it in....it's unbelievable how much damage a green mack can do and OMH especially ungaffed...it's cereal

Near a bridge with skrimp and depending on the tide, could possibly be snook?

As long as you had fun.
They've been catching snook there, guy down below us caught a nice one before we left. It didn't fight like whatever I hooked. I'd guess sgark, or huge red if I had to bet money. My heart wanted a snook though. Hopefully fall break, God willing heading down below you somewhere.

Went to black rock today and had little luck. My shrimp was getting taken by pinfish and spots all day as soon as it hit the water. Reeled in a couple, and a couple small whiting too, but that was it. Nothing wanted mud minnows. Cast netted a whole bunch of mondo size mullet. No fingers. Would have been good for eating but not live bait at that size unless you saw a giant Tarpon out there. Cut up a mullet and that stayed on the hook a little better but after about two minutes it would only be skin left. Nice day though.

Looks like a beautiful place to spend the day fishing

It's a nice spot. Used to be kind of a secret that only fishermen really knew about but they built a damn little parking lot and made the whole entrance down to the beach and through the trees much more accessible so unfortunately it's packed with casuals these days.
