So much of this country would be different if the discussions of the Framers had gone slightly differently.

While I love America, we should be much more educated and open to how limited they REALLY wanted the Federal govt to be and how much power has been centralized despite the wishes of the Framers. We have gone badly astray.

But this strays too far from Iran. I'm sorry to those following the Iran situation and I'll shut up.

“I don’t care what she said,” Trump told reporters. In his view, Iran was “very close” to having a nuclear bomb.

The stage is set. There will be plenty more bait because all the major players (or even parts of players i.e. Iran) want it to happen. Whether the Orange Man takes the bait is not known, but he has already nibbled. What Trump did seems idiotic as it paints a big target on Americans, imo.

There was a risk premium in the oil market based on the low probability (IMO) of some bad outcomes. If the market thought any of those outcomes (like a Strait of Hormuz blockage, massive Iranian retaliation, etc.) had a good chance of happening, it probably would have gone straight to $125/barrel right after the Israelis began bombing, and then further up from there if escalation continued. If there ever was a true major disruption of oil out of that region, you could see $200-250/barrel oil easily.

Now that we know Iran really can't do anything, that risk premium is coming out of the market. Oil is back to where it was before Israel starting bombing back on June 13.

It really is astonishing how the Israelis, after October 7, degraded not just Iranian capabilities but those of their proxies. IMO what kept Israel from doing this at various points in the past wasn't just Iranian defenses, but more so the ability of Hamas and Hezbollah to conduct massive retaliatory attacks right on Israel's border if they ever bombed Iran. Stuff that makes October 7 look moderate by comparison. Now that they've effectively neutered those groups, at least for a time, they're striking while the iron is hot.

In speed reading the article it looks like we're back to the difference without a real distinction scenario that's already been discussed. While they may not have been actively building a bomb, they increased production to that end.

And if they produced or bought the ignition mechanism they were good to go.

I realize if you mince words you can technically say both without contracting the other.
