*****Portal Watch

I’ve been calling his show “off and on“ since 94. He has great coverage of the BaseVols and is a solid interviewer. I get he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I personally enjoy most of his show/podcast. I’ve even spoken to CTV on his show after the FL football game a few years ago. His postgame shows are usually good fun. Heflin has taken over the baseball postgame shows and he’s outstanding.

TB is my favorite show in Knoxville and he definitely has the most fan interaction on the radio and app. Some don’t like him and that’s fine. TB has ZFG if you don’t like his show. He just doesn’t like DW trying to squeeze every nickel out of the fans. The Drive is my second favorite. Really enjoy the Swain Event with Ben McKee but it’s only Tuesday and Thursday morning.

I’m not a fan of AD DW’s money grab either. Seems he has sold the farm to the well heeled alums that have little enthusiasm to the players. I can almost see the reality as the portal/NIL era pervades collegiate baseball.
Tony Basilio has hated DW since the day he got hired. I can DW running people the wrong way at times. Bottom line is he a built one of the best AD’s in the country. I don’t necessarily like raising prices on everything either, but Basilio has a personal agenda DW.

Would seem to be problematic for TB how much DW hates leaks and the lengths to which he goes to block leaking of info

Basilio also hates Danny White. I’ve noticed you have criticized Danny Whote a lot as well.
overall, DW has done a great job as AD. His primary job is to raise funds and increase revenue. He’s supported CTV and the baseball program and I hope that continues. He’s squeezed the common fan like a lemon but I guess this is the cost of success in this age of college athletics…

Yep. It's a new day in college sports. I've accepted the sports I knew back in the day are gone...both professional and college. This is what free agency did to the NFL and it just changed how you viewed the sport and your favorite team/players/coach. The connection isn't the same. Peace comes from accepting this change and changing yourself as a fan. No matter how much I want that square peg to fit the round hole, it's not going to happen. Guys my age still have special memories. Todays younger fans will never know how it used to be and for that, I feel sorry for them. OTOH, maybe not knowing is a good thing? Ignorance/bliss?

In today’s climate, DW wouldn’t be doing his job if he weren’t doing everything possible to grab more money.

Then those same fans who bitch about money-grabbing complain that we’re being “outspent.” It’s nonsensical. And frankly, juvenile.

As is always the case, everyone is always ready to freely spend....as long as it's someone elses money.

The changes in pro sports means I literally no longer watch them. I was a huge fan of the Braves and Titans but don‘t spend a minute watching or reading about either. As a kid, I was a Dallas Cowboys fan. I hope the “business” changes in college athletics doesn’t drive me away. The portal and constant movement of players without any ramifications might tip me over the edge. I’m not naive enough to think that there wouldn’t be a long line of fans waitIng to gobble up my tickets.

Agreed plus DW has a bit of arrogance in him. He was savvy enough not to mess with naming rights for Neyland Stadium. I‘m sure he‘s waiting for Lindsey Nelson’s renovations to be completed and the field and stadium will absolutely be renamed. Larry Pratt is probably in negotiations
