President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

Understand no private entity would shut down, unless they could not hire any staff.

I'm sure you know some structures, plants, and features in National Parks are irreplaceable. Carving initials into cabins, digging plants and flowers, collecting petrified wood. As well as servicing bathrooms, info centers, Park trails etc require staff. DOGE doesn't care
I do understand this. I was mostly just picking fun at the notion that only government can run these natural attractions. I am also bothered by giving the government control of business endeavors, that is, to use our tax dollars to try to invest in money making business activities to enrich the state; that just seems a too fascist to me. The government should make us safe and provide an environment where Americans can prosper, it should not be in the business of business. They shouldn't tax me (taking my money) to pay for programs in an effort to make the government more money.

We Americans, at some point, have to address our spending issues. A suggestion as to a small step in the right direction could be to place public lands into conservation easements which would protect natural wonders, and then to contract with private enterprise to manage those lands. If the lands do truly make a profit, and not just show a profit due to subsidies, I suspect there will be plenty of contractors bidding on the work. They will likely employ the exact same people who were doing the work anyway. Win/win - let private business carry the cost of employees, health care, retirement, etc., and let government focus on governing, not cleaning bathrooms and repairing hiking trails.

Of course, any savings from this would be but a drop in the bucket compared to the real drains on our federal budget, one of which is, increasingly, interest on our national debt, for which we receive no new current or future benefit.

Curious what the "how dare Hunter sell paintings" crowd has to say about this one.

Accepting this gift out in the open is hands down way worse than Burisma, 10% to The Big Guy, peddling Joe’s influence in China and a laptop that didnt’t exist. Amarite? I’m sure you get my point, but yes, I do actually believe the prudent thing to do would have been to decline the gift on appearance alone.

Well, given that the Burisma story was a fabrication that saw the person who fabricated it go to prison, and there's literally zero evidence of "Joe’s influence in China", there's really no comparison except maybe comparing Trump in 2025 to Trump in 2016.

Vice President JD Vance called Chief Justice John Roberts’ comments earlier this month that the judiciary’s role is to check the executive branch a “profoundly wrong sentiment” and said the courts should be “deferential” to the president, particularly when it comes to immigration.

“I thought that was a profoundly wrong sentiment. That’s one half of his job, the other half of his job is to check the excesses of his own branch. And you cannot have a country where the American people keep on electing immigration enforcement and the courts tell the American people they’re not allowed to have what they voted for,” Vance told New York Times opinion columnist Ross Douthat on the “Interesting Times” podcast, which was taped on Monday.

Earth to JD: When the Executive *violates laws* to achieve your “enforcement”, you shall continue to be nipped in your tiny nuts bro.

No, not entirely. One guy made false statements wrt the issue. Wonder why Hunter Biden was placed in the board for $1M/yr to begin with?

The plane likely won't be ready until after Trump leaves office. He is horrible at these qpq deals.
I didn't realize that it's a 13 yr old plane. Why are we considering a used plane for our President?

The plane will initially be transferred to the United States Air Force, which will modify the 13-year-old aircraft to meet the U.S. military specifications required for any aircraft used to transport the president of the United States, multiple sources familiar with the proposed arrangement said.

This is so amazingly stupid… by the time that this aircraft is retrofitted and thoroughly scoured for bugs and other eavesdropping materials it’s gonna be two years and another billion dollars before it’s finished. Oh, by the way at that point, the Boeing jets are now available.

I’m sure there’s a brand spanking new 787 sitting around one of the Boeing sites that would suffice as a sweet presidential ride.

Not "one guy" the "only guy" to have made the allegation, and the only guy to plead guilty to lying about the allegations and end up in prison for doing so.

You're own party investigated till they were blue in the face, and could find no evidence that supported any influence peddling scheme.

Maybe you'll want to look into Don Jr's board seats with as much fervor?

It's considerably newer and lower time than the existing planes, Boeing's pretty late with the two on backorder, and Trump wants a newer plane ASAP.
There's a question though of how long it will take to modify this one to meet operational requirements.

There's probably a 777 too but there are still the issues of price and how long it would take to retrofit it.

I’m all about it. Take them all down if they’re involved in corrupt dealings. My whole point to EL was a gifted aircraft from another country out in the open is not the same as the Biden issues I mentioned. You locked in on Burisma (where there is smoke), but not my other examples. I wish you would exhibit that same fervor you speak of wrt the last admin., but you’re insistent there’s nothing there, at all. Zero, zilch, nada.

You brought up Burisma, pretending that the only person to make the allegations of bribery, admitted they were false. You can't really use it in your comparison at this point given that fact.

Why would I need to exhibit any fervor at all? The republicans investigated right up until Smirnov admitted that he lied about the entire ordeal. What else was there to investigate?

I get a good laugh out of this 747 gift fiasco

The VC-25A/B is only a fleet of two to begin with. So maintenance is going to be costly with no economies of scale.

Throw in another airframe and now we’re gonna have a one off that will be even more expensive to maintain? No the obvious choice would be to put it in cue behind the other two in production. Which means Trump won’t set foot on it during his presidency

It should be ready by his third or fourth term. JK
