LNS: Is the Hornet’s Nest Gone?

Really overrated IMHO. Buying the name…too many other great cigars for a fraction of the price of a Cohiba. Now Opus X is a guilty indulgence and worth every $.
Opus X is one of my favorites. Funny thing, having a Cuban consulate here in Houston, I can get Cohibas easier/cheaper than I can get Opus X.

Cohibas are not my favorite but I stay stocked up on them for guests because that’s always what someone wants to try.

That’s the cigar lots of nonsmokers like me know by name.

Our guide told us the story behind the name Romeo y Julieta: over a century ago to help the cigar rollers pass the time as they worked, there was a person who would read literature aloud on the rolling floor. The workers’ favorite was Romeo and Juliet.

Fascinating. There's a lot of interesting stories about how many of the Cuban cigars came to exist.

Cohiba was created when Castro passed by a gentleman smoking a cigar he had rolled himself. Castro loved the smell and commissioned the man to make that same cigar for himself.

Quai d'Orsay is a mild cigar commissioned by the French government to pair nicely with champagne.

Trinidad (a favorite of mine) was commissioned by the Cuban government to be given only to foreign dignitaries visiting Cuba.

I'm a cheap date, so I love a good Oliva.
That's a fine smoke. Many would suggest that today's selection of new world cigars are every bit as good as a Cuban. Several of the master cigar makers took their seeds and left Cuba after the nationalization of the cigar industry. I buy Cuban cigars kind of as a hobby. It's a challenge to find authentic Cubans and I mostly do it because my government says I can't have them.

Moonshine lost its allure for some people when it became legal.
I grew up in Johnson County. Knew some moonshiners. A few still do it but mostly out of tradition. They'll fire up the still a couple times a year for special occasions. Every Christmas we could expect a bunt cake from Mrs. Adams and a jar of shine from Mr. Sluder.

My late father bought a car that has been used to run moonshine, but he didn’t know it at the time. The engine had been heavily modified and he noticed that the floor of the trunk didn’t fit quite right. He found out later there was a lever underneath the dashboard. When you pulled the lever, the trunk floor would drop and everything in the trunk would get dumped out on the road😎

Most of the cars used to run shine had jacked up rear suspensions. When the trunk was loaded with shine, it would look normal. When it was empty, the rear would sit up high.

I remember him talking about the suspension as well. Unfortunately, he passed over 20 years ago so I don’t remember it all.

There's a couple places I follow online because I enjoy people breaking down the real vs the fake ones. From what I can tell even some of the decent fakes still taste pretty decent.

Yea, it's really become sport for me. The boxes and bands for some of the fakes have become very good. You have to really know all the things to look for. I only buy unopened boxes that I can authenticate through habanos.com.

After watching Arkansas, here‘s another issue impacting the atmosphere at LNS. The MVP seats are typically 1/3 empty even for the big SEC weekends. The best, closest seats to the field are NOT being maximized for a quality home field advantage. You saw virtually ZERO empty seats behind home plate at Arkansas or LSU or Ole Miss. MVP Seats aren’t able to be resold on Ticketmaster and those season ticket holders aren’t transferring them to friends/family when they don‘t attend. This needs to be resolved as it hurts the environment at LNS.

Finally, outside of a few, the MVP section is one of the quietest, most laid back sections of LNS. Besides hurting the atmosphere, it’s a really bad look on TV with tons of empty seats between the dugouts.

What do expect from the MVP section when they're mostly older individuals... I don't expect a 70 year old to stand and scream for 9 innings...
