That's not entirely true. I remember seeing the bad boy Pistons routinely rape MJ with no calls.

That was the big impetuous for the "Jordan Rules." For a brief time in his career MJ played in the old NBA and got banged on. The post Magic/Bird/Dr J era the NBA lagged and need a star. MJ was the prized bull (pun intended) that they were going to take care of and showcase.

I watched Bird when he played Magic, and the Lakers. Admittedly, was a distant fan.

More into baseball. And, Bird wouldnt have moved the needle.

Do you really think Larry Bird is going to say anything different? Larry Bird's like,"Yeah, I'm the greatest." MJ is better athlete, but even as a Dr J fan I have to say that Bird was fundamentally the best in an era when everyone played fundamentally. Jordan started winning when the rules were changed. Dr J, Kareem, Bird, Dominique Wilkins, and Magic under the same rules would have averaged 50 a night.

My coworker says Blacksburg is like Athens in that it basically grew around, and because of, the university and that it’s the definition of a college town

Back in the dark ages (mid 70's) I did some work at both Clemson and Miami of Ohio where the towns had a red light entering and exiting town. Today the population in both is less then 23,000 compared to Blacksburg @ 45,000 and Athens @ 128,000 . Student population today @ Clemson is over 25,000 and @ Miami of Ohio over 18,000. Great college towns because without the Universities towns would be a crossroad on a map.

I would have agreed with you in 2022 ans 2023 but as the NIL and transfer portal continues to spiral out of control, the parity will be worst than ever. I think with a little structure the parity will get there. But I dont really need to see a 16 team playoff in college football. I think it waters down the regular season. There were a lot of important games to see who was getting those last few spots, but all those teams got killed in the first round. Its only going to be less exciting when you shift that back 4 spots.

I disagree. Last year was awesome and had excitement going to the last weekend with going from 4 to 12. And watching more games against good teams was awesome. I hope they go to 16.
