Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Could you provide information of him sitting at home instead of recruiting?

This isn’t a defense of Pope as a WR coach, I’m just not sure where this narrative came from of him not recruiting.
We have 5 WR’s who were 4 or 5 stars plus Brazzell. Doesn’t include Boo. 4 were top 250. Talent is there.

One starting WR that was undersized and everyone complained about leaving his feet to catch the ball transferred while another starting WR medically retired after the season and still there are some who are more concerned with the room this season.

Worrying just to worry.

The only thing concerning me is the youth. We have 7 schollly WR's and 5 are RS FR or True FR that have never started or played a down of college football. But, in saying that I love the potential of what we have. If injuries become an issue, then we will have problems. Hoping for quick development and injury free. I'm siked about Smith and Jackson and looking forward to Brazzell and Mathews in their 2nd year.

No corroborating evidence required. By definition being a Tennessee coach means that you are a lazy moron. So it is perfectly proper to assume that any of the Tennessee staff are completely incompetent and happy to stay that way.

Delay the gratification and save up for it. Or DIY if you like projects. Financing consumer purchases takes away from your ability to build wealth and more easily afford such purchases down the road.

But isn't building a structure to improve the value of the property also building wealth and increasing the investments value?

Speaking of 401k....any of you ever taken a loan out against yours?

On paper I'm not seeing much downside... big chunk to pay for the garage build I wanna do, pay back with interest rate (9.5% or lower) and even the interest is going back into my 401k...

My only gripe is the max period to pay it back appears to be 54 months (why 54 I don't know...I'm curious if it's going by calendar year though).

But it just takes the payment right out of my regular check so not like something I'd even have to setup or remember to do.
I did it years ago. If you need the money, and are going to have to borrow it one way or another, you may as well borrow it and pay interest to yourself. Obviously, the downside would be if you lost the means to pay it back and then things get dicey with penalties and such but if your confident in your current situation then I think it's a good idea.

We had a rental property and the AC went out. We had the cash to replace it but didn't want to deplete our savings. This was a long time ago so I'm not sure if regulations have changed.

I mean...I get the worry, you're only returning 2 of your top 7 pass catchers and 1 is a TE.

We also lost a lot of bodies 2 of which were really high rated HS guys (Webb & Leacock) that left before we even got to see if they were worth anything.

But I am hoping the improvement in speed & talent makes up for it. And if we had to get half a dozen to transfer out to get guys like Matthews, Staley, Jackson, Boo, and Smith Jr. on the field then so be it.

I think we saw enough from Webb that suggested he wasn't good enough for this level. I'd take him now for depth, but not the athlete you want.

Just like last season after all the hand wringing, the secondary was vastly up graded. The same will be true with the receiving corps this season. People ask coaches all the time, "How are you going to replace *fill in the name of your best player*?" Response: "They make more every year."

@butchna

Pickens to Cowboys deal being finalized today. Thoughts ?
There’s a good process going on under Schottenheimer. Really impressed. Some would say he has no part in the trade (lopsided). But these didn’t happen under Dave Campo and Chan Gailey imo.

Starting to feel good about upcoming season. Now Cowboys have 2 legit WR's and Pickens is a deep threat. If OL can protect Dak he will have a huge season with Lamb, Pickens and Ferguson at TE...need to add a DT but I believe one of the draft picks starts and plays well...

I do enjoy a good Cowboys update. How bout them Cowboys. Oh wait, can they win with Dak and under Jerry's thumb?

Good morning. Today marks the one year anniversary of my separation from alcohol. It’s nice to be able to cope with life’s challenges without it.
Heart felt Congratulations.

I will get blasted for this but alcohol is more dangerous than most realize. One of those slippery slope type things. It can have you in an open jail cell for years and you never realize you are there until the door slams shut and it’s too late.

Not to mention that it is a poisen in your system. I've largely stopped drinking it all together (largely). But that Negra Modelo on Cinco de Mayo was tasty.

Eh, the math isn't linear. Add on structures don't increase the value of your home as much as original structure. If truly your primary goal is building wealth, spending tens of thousands adding on to your house is down the list of best ways to accomplish that.
