Tennessee Lady Vol News

They haven't posted it yet, but have shown past years game here. Don't hold me to it being here, but right now no information about a stream is available. Hoping they will again stream it this year both Pauldo twins and Jaida Civil are there.

Things that stood out to me:
1) She mentioned 9 new players and having a 15-player roster, so it sounds like they're still looking at adding one more.
2) She mentioned that we'll be more athletic but might not be as good at shooting.
Well I would like to have Phelia think she could be a really strong player even is she hasn't played in a couple of years.

Phelia is a player I wanted in last year portal, but she didn’t miss the last couple of years, lat year she only played a couple of games but she played the season before at Michigan.

Yes only a year by the time the season gets here, but only eight games. I don't think she would suffer from being off that long some players do and others can jump right in and be effective. She is going to play somewhere might as well be here at Tennessee. I just hope she didn't mispeak and counted 15 when we have fourteen and thought we had more.

@th2421 I almost believe that CKC and her staff already know the 15th player.
I mean she’s pretty efficient with numbers so I’m sure this wasn’t CKC mistakenly saying 15 and meaning 14.
After signing the #1 transfer portal class.
The coaching staff understands this roster “need” better than any person could imagine.
Could be another versatile forward or a post with multiple years of eligibility. An international player?
That’s the only area where you could build more depth.
The guard spots are set. No guard is coming in and reshaping the order of the guard positions doesn’t matter who that player is.
I also was very impressed with the way CKC is analyzing the players to acknowledge how talented this roster is while still maintaining a plan to get better in areas of improvement.
I honestly don’t expect this team to drop off in shooting next year. I believe CKC knows they can raise that standard as well and it’s why she is challenging them already to reach a higher ceiling.
Last thing, it’s astonishing that we’re now just moving past the 1 year mark. To have the #1/2 HS recruiting class, #1 transfer portal class in 12 months set a new bar that hadn’t been reached in a decade at the most historic WBB program of all-time. Perhaps we no longer will hear the myth even from the ultimate LV fan on VolNation that we have a team full of role players.
Get your popcorn ready!

I wouldn’t worry about her game at all, as long as her eye is healthy and she’s good to go, I’m confident on what she brings.

That is something I would do.....not her. Much too sharp. I would not be surprised if she adds another player.

We did lose some shooters but it looks like we gain some shooting with the incoming players. It might not be as much from "3" but more at the rim out to the foul line. More points from rebounding possibly?

my take-aways from her comments

she responded to a series of quality questions from reporters with in depth information. comfortable with now "knowing her way around within the UT LV environment."

after one year of SEC play - understands what is the required level of athleticism and skill to win in the SEC.

has a core of players who know what to expect and what she, the coach expects, a major value with the influx of new players. unusual in this day of mass transferring.

big players don't want to play the standard 5 , but like the pros inside out. LV style is a selling point.

LV style needs "more" guards.

didn't make a future expectation for year two, was satisfied with year one

I’m thinking she is holding an open spot for a target or targets. I doubt she’ll sign someone just to fill it. A post with a couple of years eligibility, possibly?
Well that’s why I’ve been asking when some were saying that she was done with the portal. You have a spot left fill it never know when that may be a valuable person sooner than later. I’ve had a feeling that they would be one more added.

Another really good CKC interview. Sounds like she's open to adding one more (shooter) to the roster if it's a good fit.

Hope she finds some rest and relaxation during her maternity leave!

Who else besides me suspects that next season we may be seeing more opponents utilizing extended presses and perhaps even more frequent substitutions than they historically have made?

I just have a feeling Kim's system is going to inspire some hybrids out there.

You’re not wrong. We will see it at the mid-major level first and the high major in 2-3 seasons. It’s coming though. Great comment

I am thinking that Jaida Civil will be and early surprise. I like what she projects in the clips I’ve seen of her.

Oh for sure, she is the definition of defense to offense which is exactly what we need. Her defense and motor will get her minute for sure.

I was curious, based on my superficial research I believe there are only two D1 WBB coaches to lead their team to the Sweet 16 in their inaugural season.

Kim Caldwell - University of Tennessee Knoxville

And

Jeff Walz - University of Louisville

Jeff may be polarizing but that isn’t bad company. He took Louisville there from the jump and has never looked back.

I think Holly Warlick did better. Googled and got this, “KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After a season that saw her lead a young and injury-battered Lady Vol basketball team to an unexpected SEC regular-season title and to a berth in the NCAA Elite Eight, Tennessee's Holly Warlick was named the Spalding Maggie Dixon Division I Rookie Coach of the Year in New Orleans on Monday night.”
