Mods if you want to delete the old one and pin this new one if that’s easier…

Current scholarship count:
12/13= 1 spots remaining

Alright, so we had 11 on scholarship and lost 6 to graduation (Lanier, Dubar, Milicic, Zeigler, Gainey & Mashack), lost 1 mid season to transfer (Cameron Carr), so that left us with 4 returning scholarship players. To list point we’ve had no other portal entries, never say never, but would appear those 4 will be returning to Rocky Top (Felix Okpara, JP Estrella, Cade Phillips & Bishop Boswell). The current standing is 13 scholarships, there’s talk that could become 15, but it hasn’t so for now we’ll roll with it being a limit of 13. Also talk of 5th years for seniors, so some guys could potentially return, again that isn’t something that has been ruled official so for now we’ll proceed that it’s not happening.

Returning scholarship players:
Felix Okpara SR
Cade Phillips Jr
JP Estrella rsSO
Bishop Boswell SO

High School Signees:
Nate Ament (#4)
Amari Evans (#68)
Dewayne Brown (#100)
Troy Henderson (#248)
Clarence Fondeur-Massamba (NR)

Transfer Portal Additions:
Ja’Kobi Gillespie SR
Amaree Abram SR
Jaylen Carey JR

Projected lineup as is:
(Not looking to make an argument out of this, just an easier way to view the roster in a lineup form)

PG: Ja’Kobi Gillespie/Troy Henderson
SG: Amari Abram/Clarence Massamba/Bishop Boswell
SF: Nate Ament/Amari Evans
PF: Jaylen Carey/Cade Phillips
C: Felix Okpara/JP Estrella/Dewayne Brown

Current Barttorvik Roster Projection:
Offense: 115.3
Defense: 91.0
Overall: 0.9379
2025 Rank: #10

Barring injury, no chance the #2 ranked HS recruit isn’t starting
I think Amemt is off bench to start the season. The French dude played pro. Abram played in college.

Hard to picture Ament starting over them off the bat.

Why is it hard to picture Ament starting immediately?

He doesn't have to beat both Abram AND Massamba. All 3 of those guys will be in their first year at Tennessee. Ament has the most natural talent, the most financial commitment, and the most potential.

How many top-3 players in their class don't start immediately?

He looks very skinny.. needs college strength program… HS is not College…. If he beats out French guy then Ament will prob start.

I dont think Barnes will base it off the $$.. I think he will base it off their defense and physicality they play with.

So that’s why I think Ament will start out off the bench. But we will see.

There's virtually zero chance of Ament not starting if he is healthy. This is a top 3 recruit, a kid who chose us over every blue blood school, a kid that Barnes is outwardly raving over. If this kid doesn't start, we'll never sniff another top recruit.

Barnes is going to coach him hard, which is what Ament and his family want, but he is going to be a focal point of this team from day one.

No chance in hell starts on the bench … he will be the star of the team …. This guy is special

One point of confusion I wanna address.

Massamba played club ball for AS Moanco Basket, while technically a "professional" team it's more like AAU than the NBA.

And he was primarily playing on the espoirs team (Under 21). It was for one season 32 total games, only 3 were on AS Monaco Basket and he played less than 6 minutes total in those 3 games.

He's not coming to campus late and starting over Ament...he may not even beat out Evans for minutes.

Also, UT Sports has the roster... I really like the size of this team

Ja'Kobi is 6'1"
Troy is 6'1"
Bishop at 6'4" (but over 200lbs)
Abram at 6'4"
Evans at 6'5"
Massamba at 6'5"

All the forwards are 6'8" or taller as well

Carey at 6'8"
Brown at 6'9"
Ament at 6'9"
Cade at 6'9"
Felix & JP both at 6'11"

I suspect that we’ll play big and tall next season.Outside of proven guards Ja’Kobi and Abram, I see Bishop and or Evans fighting for minutes. Can’t count out the freshman pg as well.Massamba is missing out on some valuable summer reps imo.

Thanks for listing this, it bugs me when people use first names of some players and last of others. (I do this too...I just hate myself when I do). haha

My guess as well...I see them hoping to keep at least 2 forwards on the court at all times and potentially playing Ament or Cade at the 3 spot.

Could even see Felix/JP on the court together some and go really big.

Minutes wise...probably the pecking order most to least..

Ja'Kobi
Felix
Ament
Abram
Carey/JP
Cade
Troy/Evans/Bishop

Everyone else...although they seem to have a lot of positive things to say about Brown
