Roster Tracker 2025 Edition

ESPN has us as Preseason #18. I kind of understand, unknown roster and Mashack and Ziegler moving on. I truly believe they end up in the top 5 with a 2 or 1 seed. Sure the defense took a hit, but CRB will have them ready and the 91 Defensive ranking is too low or too high.

Yeah, I called it out way back when, but this is tracking to likely be an all-time bad take. It would have been like suggesting Kevin Durant would come off the bench at Texas as a freshman. I understand the mindset behind the thought and there are many cases where it would hold true, but not with a player of Ament's talent.

Barnes isnt a tough cypher. He’s gonna go with who he thinks gives him the best chance to win. It’s the last five on the floor that are the most critical anyway. To jump out with a controversial lineup leaving out Ament is trollish, imo, seeking attention. I think it’s a twitter cesspool thingie…

After 1 game (yes, I know it’s one game against a mid major), my lineup would be:

Gillespie
Burg
Ament
Estrella
Brown

First off the bench:
Boswell
Phillips
Okpara

I know that will change. We have a small sample size. But I love what I’ve seen from Brown and Estrella. And Boswell gave us a lot in the way of defense and rebounding. I’d still start Burg, but Boswell will play. Hope he can consistently hit a 3 or 2 and provide just a little offense. Enough so we’re not 5 on 4.

I can agree with you that between the Duke and Mercer games, Brown has looked better than Carey. I’m not seeing where Okpara has played himself out of the starting lineup.

It’s more that I think Estrella has played himself in. Doesn’t matter, since Okpara still can’t stay out of foul trouble, so Estrella will play a lot regardless.

Okpara had the best foul rate among bigs on last years team, and much better than Carey’s at Vandy…so realistically you can claim he is the best big at staying out of foul trouble.

I think it's wishful thinking to say that JP will spend a lot of time at the 4 - think he'll play there in spots but he's just been at the 5 against Duke/Mercer.

Obviously come crunch time 11 players won't get double digit minutes, but I think the minutes will still be pretty spread out. Think the five bigs will all platoon with Felix leading in MPG but things changing game by game based on fouls and who is making an impact. Don't see anyone falling out of the rotation. With the guards/SF, you have two locks (JG, Ament) for 30. So the remaining 60ish minutes are up for grabs between Burg, Boswell, Abram, and Troy. Unlike the bigs, I do think the minutes will become a little more condensed, but it's still anyone's guess as to who will fall out of the rotation. Each player brings something. I guess a good problem for the staff.

Could’ve sworn we saw some Estrella/Okpara lineups against both teams, same for Estrella/Brown lineups, both of which would be JP at the 4
Damn I do remember Estrella/Brown, don't remember Estrella/Okpara (would be happy to be wrong!). I think I assumed Estrella was playing the 5 when Brown was in, but what you're saying makes sense and I guess any of those combos is pretty interchangeable in terms of who is in what spot on the court.

I think Estrella is good for the second team because Gillespie and Ament should have high usages and Okpara is a good 4th option that doesn’t need much usage to perform. I think Estrella needs the ball to produce. He’s not bad defensively but I think some of our other posts are a bit better, so we need him to be a focal point when he is in there (like 2nd option or so).

That’s shocking. Seems like he was always having to sit for long spells with foul trouble. Did it again the other night. And many seem like silly fouls.

Gotta believe that the role our 2 bigs play will be dictated by the matchups used by our opponents. Dragging their best big out further and creating our best inside matchup could be best use of versatility in the 4/5 execution.
